I know what your saying Murph, my son had a 08 530 kato and after being used to WRs he just couldn’t get on with it ,we did all the normal things like clickers, lower the ride height front then back all sorts of things but just couldn’t get it to the point where he felt happy with it
Chopped it in for another WR and straight away felt happy again
You gotta go with what your happy with ;)
I only know 1 guy with a 500 and don’t see him very much :(
Have you had a good go on a 300?

    Hey Mike
    Sorry about all that dribble
No, I have not had a go at a Kato 300
Did have a go at a Husky300 a few years back but was not impressed
    IT WAS ALL PEAKY
    And nothin under the band

But, I do understand that there is a fair amount of tuning.
IE springs in the power v/v thingy and such
Coming off a 4t 500, I am gonna need all the torque a 300 can deliver????

Iv thought about it as well cos of the weight thingy, but had a go on Moto’s 300 kato and gave it back after about 500. Meters :( hated it, seemed to be all or nothing  but he is a fiddler always playing with the powervalves and other shit, kinda put me off
Didn’t suit the way I ride

Nope if there is anyone here that would be best to stick with what they like it’s Murph. He’s been on the thumpers too long ;)
The smokers are for us oldies that still think they can ride like we are 20. And fail.

    Thanks Axel
The swap to a 2T wouldn’t happen for a few months (when the new mods come out) and yes it is a bugger of a decision. :silly: :pinch:
    Cheers

Murph i reckon the perfect bike for you and the rugged terrain you ride in would be a KTM 350 four stroke. Plenty of low down torque and still plenty of grunt for the fire trails. A mate just bought one and he is about 100kgs and absolutely loves it,excellent all rounder.

Im not a fan of the two stroke for the above mentioned, and the four strokes are very forgiving.

Keep an eye out for a KTM ride day,Suttos do them occasionally

    Just my two cents.

I went out today with a crew of Coffs locals who know the west side of town very well. We covered 95km’s in 5 hours and rode some amazing terrain. It was mostly all trails I have never ridden before and only 25 minutes from home. So many singles, some massive hills and deep dark jungle. We finished the day on a downhill single that was banked, bermed and buffer from top to bottom. I will definitely relive this one a few times tonight in my head. About 5km’s of perfectly built trail with a bit of everything. I was the fourth bike in the group and could see the lead rider, we were that close and all weaving through this flowing trail. I wish I had my GoPro on because in my opinion this was as good as it gets!!!

After riding the XR250 at the birthday ride on the grasstrack I was unhappy with how my bike performed in the slow speed off camber corners. Admittedly I wasn’t going as fast into or out of the corners on the XR but the front end felt planted compared to my bike.

I received some suspension advice from Mole Bag Moto (what he suggested was what I was already thinking), made the necessary tweeks and went for a quick 1 hr blast after I knocked off work this arvo.

Hammered around some flat corners and it felt better.

I Took the new Gasser 300 for a spin today at Ourimbah with Adam. Gotta say I was impressed, jetting was spot on, didnt even touch a clicker, bike ran great all day. Just needs new rubber and the float height adjusted. Happy days B)
