Found this on the Trailmates website, a bit of a worry.
Taken from the NSW Police Website:
Trail bike rider injured during forest ride – Bathurst
Sunday, 28 Mar 2010 08:18pm
Police are investigating a trail bike rider being hit by a projectile while riding in a forest at Yetholme in the state’s Central West.
Around 1pm Saturday 27 March, a 58-year-old man and his 21-year-old son were returning to their car after trail bike-riding in the Sunny Corner State Forest when the father slowed to catch his breath.
The man has told police he was struck by an object and immediately felt pain in his chest.
The man’s son assisted him to their car and the pair travelled to Bathurst Hospital where doctors x-rayed the victim and located a projectile in the left side of his chest.
The man remains in a stable condition in a Sydney hospital, awaiting surgery to remove the unknown projectile
March 28, 2010 at 9:14 pm #174660Am I reading it as he was shot? I mean what sort of projectile hits you in the chest otherwise? Maybe Mick with his news source contacts can run this to ground later as it develops.
Mal are hunters allowed to hunt there with a permit like at Clarence?

March 28, 2010 at 9:32 pm #174669Not a good weekend for dirt bike riders. There was the bloke that died on the beach and a fella on ADV that broke both legs above the knees that I know of.

Yes hunters are allowed in Sunny Corner forest.
Bloody scary stuff. I’ll see what i can find out.
It does read like a bullet. Don’t know what else would penatrate the chest.
March 28, 2010 at 10:09 pm #174677Highly unlikely, But bow hunting is undergoing a huge resurgence, this is exactly if true what all have been fearing round this way ever since a drongo with a high powered rifle killed a family dog that was playing with two children near where we take our kids riding.
This is why I gave up hunting, too many Drongos with Guns out there, even now it’s the dedicated Drongos who perservered and retained their legal ability to continue being Drongos with guns.
this is not to say all people with legal firearms licences are Drongos.Hope ole mate makes a good recovery and they get the Halfwit who shot him.

March 28, 2010 at 10:15 pm #174678What sort of person would shoot at a trailbike rider? unless the projectile has bounced off something else it sounds like someone has a problem with people having fun I hope he recovers and the cops do there job and catch the ratbag who is responsible
March 28, 2010 at 10:28 pm #174681Accidents happen, ive come across hunters a few times whilst out riding and wondered where the stray bullets end up. I hope my helmet is bullet proof.
March 28, 2010 at 10:51 pm #174682True LC, accidents do happen, but my problem with rifles is tat most, even good hunters can get wound up in the heat of the chase and forget the “horizon rule” never shoot over the horizon cause a large heavy projectile can travel and have enough energy left in it to kill at several kilometres distance, or if poor choice of chambering/projectile can travel through your prey and onward, saw an experienced idiot kill a large Buck roo one night and a beautiful young Charolias bull 100 yards behind it with a 30-06.

March 28, 2010 at 11:13 pm #174687Just found out it’s a guy I know and have ridden with. He is ok and back at Bathurst now. He was out riding with his young bloke who is in the A4DE. He was hit in a shoulder and the Doctors are leaving the projectile in there as it’s to hard to get out at this stage.
March 28, 2010 at 11:23 pm #174694i have been shot at before in the bush.. by deer hunters.
we were stopped looking at maps up near woods point. then we heard a strange sound followed by leaf litter landing on us, then boom boom, from across the valley. i dont think they were trying to hit us, just scare us off.
it worked. we high tailed it.
we must have been scaring their prey.
crazy wankers

Police matter that one Menace, they’re the ones that give everyone else a bad name, plus shooting a firearm in the general direction of anyone is plain old stupidity at it’s worst.
Attempted murder if you ask me.BC

Hope old m8 gets better soon.
March 29, 2010 at 12:50 am #174705I used to be a bow hunter, still have all the gear.
I gave up when a mate of mine went on a pay to hunt property near walcha chasing fallow deer,(apparently they were the only to on the property as the owner always kept it to one hunting party a weekend , anyway, chester had stalked to within 30 metres af a nice fallow buck and was settling down to take the shot when boooooom, the bloody deer dropped to the ground, the boys used their heads and sat dead still, knowing this other clown wasnt meant to be on the property. this peanut had shot the dear with a 370 from 200 yards from the direct oppersite side of the deer, scares me to think what the result was if he shot high. The boys watched as this bloke and his mate laughed at the way the deer was shot and then just walked off.
the police apparently did get these cowboys for poaching.
Mmmmmmm nundle is now a hunting zone as well.
might upgrade the armour
Boony
March 29, 2010 at 1:52 am #174661I like shooting also but it should not be allowed in State Forests, Ever since State Forests allowed this I have been worried something like this would happen accident or not, Really makes me worry, owning 2 properties 1 that backs onto and the other surrounded by state forest, scary to think how easy bad things can happen, thank christ on this occassion it was not more serious
March 29, 2010 at 2:07 am #174734dont get me started on hunters, especially f**king bow hunters.
it doesnt get much more inhumane, unless youre using dogs.
massive pain, suffering and fear put into a poor grass eating animal.
most wanker hunters dont even want the meat for food.
its just the thrill of killing a defenceless animal.
f**k hunters i say…F**K ALL HUNTERS!!
and i dont wanna hear no bullshit f**king excuses from try hard weekend f**kwits that think it is right.
it is not.
