I find it incredible that in 2010 you can go out into the bush and shoot animals whether feral or not. Some may die, some may run away injured and slowly die but surely we have evolved beyond this. If the kill is to feed your tribe and the skin is to wear then I get it but if it for recreation it is fucking sick! If there was a form of catch and release or laser simulation then fine but there is not. It is bloody and it is cruel.
The hunters out there will say that I grew up in the city and do not understand the damage feral animals cause but I feel as strongly about this as I do beacuse as a kid my dad took me hunting. I competed in rifle ranges and was a good shot and as much as I enjoyed everything me and my Dad did together I wish I could erase the memory of watching animals drop through my sights.
If it is feral it is beacuse we introduced it and it is up to us to find an effective and humane way to solve the problem we started in the first place. The animals did not ask to come here and they sure as hell do not deserve to be mortaly injured and die slowly.

Fes makes a really good point. It may be some trail debris or an unseen branch but either way I hope buddy makes it ok and recovers quickly.

    STM

Some good points there STM. I used to do a bit feral eradication and now can’t stand the sight of a dieing animal. But I do have to put animals down every so often and I still shoot the odd rabbit around the house.

X-rays shows that it is a bullet. They don’t what size unless it comes out but that’s not happening.

if they r shooting at people (accidentaly or not)they might not be of the legal kind

one other point i’m not defending those who do the wrong thing

more people get shot in the burbs than in the forest haven’t u watched underbelly
    Disclaimer
    That was an uneducated guess

Hope ol mate is ok and it doesn’t happen again to anyone

I still say “If it’s feral, It’s in peril”.

I watched a show the other day on Cain Toads. These things are spreading south at a rate of nots. I accually think they are facinating creatures but if I come across one, I am not assamed to say it will die in any manner I am able to dispose of it at the time. Same as I will use mice and rat traps if need be.

You think when you out the bush ripping up the single track you havn’t taken out and left behind to suffer the odd lizard or snake and the like. Does that mean we should give up dirt bikes.

Just like there are dickheads who ride dirt bikes and do there best to f#*k it up for the rest of us the same goes for recreational shooters.

Now shooting animals is not a hobby I am into but I do respect the responsible people who enjoy the sport just like I like to be respected for the responsible manner I approach our sport with.

My ex-wife is an Environmental Scientist who used to do studies for National Parks on native wildlife. The reduction in numbers of alot of our small marsupials can be directly associated with the spread of ferils. Any body who is helping reduce the numbers of ferals is fine by me.

    i hear ya bob.

i do stand on spiders, ants etc.

but i dont go out of my way to kill anything.

i dont think you are one of the f**king drongo’s that do the wrong thing, even you have a heart in there somewhere.

there are plenty of ligit reason for killing, food, pelt, ferals.
all things that need to be done.

its the dicks that enter FUN into the equasion that f**k it.

i bet you or rocket of anyone else that does it at home for whatever reason, dont enjoy it….

    its a necessity.

    thats my point.

ahhh menace what exactly r u doing when u stand on things if u aren’t killing them???

r u 1 of these sadistic maiming machines who do it 4 fun????

Yes i have hunted animals 4 recreation as well as for eradication measures ,however don’t very often anymore unless necessary at home as i would rather ride my bike(and run them over)that was a joke , but will defend the rights of myself and others who wish to do so in a humane manner

You should have been a politician scotty u say all the right things in a polite way

me i’m just a barnaby joyce (bomb thrower)

If hunters are hunting in certain approved areas they must wear a fluro vest like our sweep does they also need a special permit and hold a shooters licence so where do we ride without being shot by a stray bullet or a stupid phsyco with a bad attitude towards bike riders we may have to look at ourselves before we cast jugdement are we to blame or is it just a bit of badluck for being in the wrong place at the time the shooters have a right to do what they do but we also want to ride through the bush without being shot at

Handed all my guns in about six months ago. Havnt used them for years and now being a bit older and a family man the priorities change.

Only ever used them on rabbits or clays.

XR need to ask ourselves “Does my riding in the bush have as much potential for killing an innocent third party?”

    Guy’s,

Nudged my raw nerve today when I heard “the rumor” that this may have been some form of mucking around with guns and blame it on “the sniper on the hill” line!! (actual line from Bathurst local rag would you believe!!!!!)

If you are told or hear this pleeeeeease squash immediately for us riders sake, for sporting shooters sake (not me by the way)and for common sense sake.

I have known this chap for more than 20 years and I can assure you that this is no snow job! He, and his family, are in a bad place with his wife in her last weeks losing the battle with the big C and were on a quick get some fresh air before going back to her hospital room. Sounds odd doesnt it, but if you knew her you’d know they are out there as she would have sent them.

That day didn’t quite have the desired effect and ask me the f…ing hospital debacle story sometime!!!! Bloody hell!

Thanks for the update 1inarow. I had heard that rumour today and squashed it and my source also rang his source and told him that was not the case.

My heart goes out to the family as they have been in this bad place for a long time. They are one of the nicest families you will meet (apart from yours 1inarow).
