We all know that this is the best website in the world, even better than NASA’s.What i was wondering was…is there a section on riding tips?
Alot of new members fall into about three catagories that i can see.
1…very good riders who have been at it for a long time
2…riders getting back into it after many years away
3…new ridersI personally fall into the second description.I have only been back in the saddle since the end of April and there is so much i need to learn.
The wealth of knowledge that the good riders have is priceless to us riders who are new, getting back on our feet or just trying to learn a few tricks on developing our own skills and building our confidence.
A newby on a ride,or a new member to OBT viewing the forum i would imagine would be just horrified to ask someone for some riding tips.On the Nundle ride for example i asked Superunit whats the best way to head down a steep hill without going too slow and wearing out my front brake. His reply will stay with me forever “Man…you just gotta pretend you are..like…on a BMX when you were a kid, dont worry about nuthin and enjoy the ride all the way to the bottom dude !!”
Little tips like that are invaluable.Like the tip one of the riders gave a few people on the jurds ride about weight on the pegs etc etc.You just can’t learn that stuff out of a book.Even though i do get exited when i find a one page riding tip in some of those trailbike mags.
My first pony express a few months ago i asked the forum about riding in sand. The response i got from the members was awesome and it stuck with me through out the race. But truthfully it took me a while to get the guts to ask the question(and i’m glad i finally did)..do you see my point?
If you never ask…you will never know.
So maybe Admin and all the powers to be,what would be the chance of a riding tips section?I maybe asking for something that is allready there and if so..i am sorry for being a peanut..I’m not allways a silly peanut…i can sometimes be a serious thinking peanut:kiss: …would love to hear the thoughts of the members on this.
cheers big ears

Good idea Boll,,,
I (being a NEW & inexperienced rider) would find this to be an excellent idea!!!I have picked up some very valuable tips from some guys on this site & have learnt a lot in the past 6 months or so, just need to get them into practice now:dry:
We are lucky to have a heap of awsome riders amongst us now & they are always there to lend a helping hand (and have a good laugh too   )
Cheers
August 18, 2009 at 11:39 am #148814We are currently talking with a ride coach who shall be known as Dr Hogg it will happen in the near future.
The other way is ask guys when on a ride, its best understood and the rider can watch you ride and helpAugust 18, 2009 at 11:41 am #148815Thats a good point Boll’ I researched dtuff on the net and came across a DVD from one of the magazines which gave me all sorts of good tips, I just need for them to stay in my head when i’m riding. Like the one about weighting the outside peg, before I read that somewhere I was riding like it was a road bike and leaning my weight to the inside.

AnonymousI hear you Bollocks. I actually raised this some time ago too. It makes a difference if people can explain it to you in an easily understood manner, just like Superunit  (how funny is that?).
I had a problem asking DanD about how to approach different things. His response was always ‘You just do it’. DanD is a really good, natural rider so I think that when he rides it just comes to him.
Me however need someone to say, do this when you are cornering, or if you are approaching a log then set your bike up this way. Then I just keep putting it into practice until it becomes more of an automatic response.
A separate section to keep track of all these tips would be good.

August 18, 2009 at 11:46 am #148818Yeah the ride coach we are talking with is qualified bollocks and will be some help I am sure, I will get back onto him
I also agree with admin, you are best speaking with some of the quicker guys you ride with, if you get an answer like units maybe also ask someone else

AnonymousBollocks – the only dumb question is the one that is not asked.
Don’t be shy about asking a question on OBT, we are lucky enough to have this site which has a whole lot of knowledge available.

I use it alot, it’s very fitting for me for those that know me.
Back to the tips and tricks, I’m usually the worst offender for helping out too much on the trails. I usually dish out too much information at once. It may be tricky to learn but it’s also hard to teach. Everyones different, everyone has their own opinion on how to do it, what works for them etc. In fact, I’d bet there are many, many experienced riders that won’t help anymore for various reasons like – they can’t explain themselves, nobody listens/appreciates their advice, they have radical ideas/technique/opinions. Some may even think it’s something others have to “earn”.
I’m not like that at all. Its a dangerous, expensive sport. The more we help each other the more we can all enjoy it together safely.
