Proof that the rear tyre will move without a rimlock with a mousse.

This is from 2 short rides of nothing real technical or grippy.

Rimlock will go back in tomorrow. :)

Nice work Mal, very interesting I never ran a lock with my rear mousse. Never checked if it moved  Will use a lock now if I put a mousse back in ;)

I did not know you could run without a rimlock at all?? I was suprised to read that eags was runing without one. I have had them come apart and tear holes in the tube. :( When it failed I stole one out of the YZ at about one in the morning so I could go on a ride. Thanks for the info mal :)

I have run for 4 years with out a rim lock with my Mousses. I did a test once like this, and yes it did move, but I figure there was nothing that could be damaged as the carcass was full of lube preventing the tube from gripping either the tyre or rim. I didn’t notice a lack of drive, so the rim lock stayed off, and my tyre changes were easier.
One thing I do make sure of is ensuring the tyre bead and rim bead are clear of lube when it goes on. Cleaning them with acetone does a perfect job.

Matt I agree that the tyre doen’t move much. But the fact it does move and I now know it does will play on my mind when riding. So I’ll wrestle the rimlock back in.

I have read somewhere that a tyre had spun on a rim and the rider thought the clutch was slipping.
