OK I’m sure this has been asked before but exactly how long before a new 4T motor is run in? Done about 3?? Ks now on the CRF and all types of riding. Should be run in now yeah?
September 4, 2012 at 11:52 am #228926Hell yeah it is mate well and truly. Should have been run in after about 80kms depending which way of the 2354 correct and only ways you choose to run it in. Us mechanics do it different to one another. Running in is a personal choice there are wife’s tails and kids stories about factories doing this and that and running different oils and all sorts of things from people that haven’t seen it or been there (myself included) there are theories from people in all walks of life that have an idea from butchers, bakers and candle stick makers but honestly it’s a personal thing, but your past that so, ride it now like you always will. Change your oil regularly 500kms or 10hrs on the 450 I reckon personally and enjoy it

September 4, 2012 at 12:19 pm #228928The way you sucked the juice last Saturday I assumed it was well and truly run in
:laugh:I still had half a tank when you hit reserve
Must be all that bling weighing it down
Fun times :woohoo:

September 4, 2012 at 12:50 pm #228929Yeah mate for sure.
When i looked in the tank back at home I still had 4 ltrs in there enough for another 1/2 an hour maybe? Im not sure how much is actually left on the reserve but i will drain tomorrow an see so i have a better idea :silly: or maybe just through the big tank on next time
Good times ahead :cheer:November 8, 2012 at 11:36 pm #228933This will make you all cringe but i’m not a fan of running in a modern engine. By the time it’s warmed up the first time it’s run in.
Impossible to change the oil too much, most engine disasters are from oil issues, be it long change periods of contamination, usually fuel. short skits pistons, single rings, big radiators and EFI really get the oil full of fuel. that’s the killer.
Treat them mean, keep them keen.November 9, 2012 at 12:16 am #228934kamakazi-rocket wrote:Yeah mate for sure.

Good times ahead :cheer:A honda CRF has a 4L reserve? How big is the tank, I thought the tanks on the CRF’s held like 9 or 10 litres. That would mean you hit reserve at 40% fuel level? Doesn’t sound quite right to me……..
You’ve either measured 4L wrong  😆 or didn’t actually hit reserve
November 9, 2012 at 2:13 am #232214Hey Kamakazi – rocket.
I have a 2010 CRF450X. They have a 7.5L tank and will do around about 70km to reserve. At reserve they have 2.5L left. So you should be able to get 90km trailride out of it.

November 9, 2012 at 2:40 am #228930The only run in my crf 450 gets is into a bunch of trees
November 11, 2012 at 11:14 pm #232218
run them in hard and they go hard….November 16, 2012 at 2:20 am #232382Yeah 7.8 ltrs and 2 ltrs reserve. Only get about 80 ks not 90 on the gas to much
but i just scored a 14 ltr tank on ebay for 200 smakers  so should get a few more ks with that without sacrificing to much weight!November 16, 2012 at 3:15 am #232514kamakazi-rocket wrote:Yeah 7.8 ltrs and 2 ltrs reserve. Only get about 80 ks not 90 on the gas to much
