Gday Bulls
Im entering my first race next week at Narrabri.Pumped and reday to go, then some one said there is a heap of sand out there.Now….i have had bugger all to do with sand, especialy long stretches of it,whats the best way to approach it?Do i lean back and give it the gas?or do i just say a quick hail mary when i hit it?
( Slightly nervious) BollocksMay 7, 2009 at 4:54 am #132897You could try my approach.
Extend both legs out, in outrigger fashion, then approach the sand at an appropriate speed, like 2-3 km per hour whilst holding onto both handgrips firmly. Try to maintain your speed so as not to go over 3kmh as injury/death may result.
It is important, whilst in the middle of the sand trap, try not to think about all the damage the sand is doing to your chain and sprockets, doing so will only distract you from the job at hand.
It is also advisable to take your goggles off, in case you catch up to someone in the sand and the sand being roosted at you, ruins your lenses.Or you could do what I have seen less experienced riders do and that is, stand up on your pegs, with your arms straight and your bum towards the rear guard with the throttle pinned, roosting all and sundry.

AnonymousYep, lean back keep the power on and you’ll be sweet……until you have to corner!
May 7, 2009 at 5:29 am #132904looks like flat out is the way to go,dont know whether i will slow down to 3 km ph mick ,as i am sure im gonna finish at the back of the field, but it would be more preferable to finish the race the same day as every one else !!!
cheers tb and moto….stuff the corners :woohoo:May 7, 2009 at 5:49 am #132901Or you could do what I have seen less experienced riders do and that is, stand up on your pegs, with your arms straight and your bum towards the rear guard with the throttle pinned, roosting all and sundry.
Option 2 pick option 2
May 7, 2009 at 6:46 am #132910The idea is to skim the front across the top, braking is done for you as you back off, and cornering is a blast, sit on back of seat and use the power to spin you through (unless you’re on a lugger)… I used to hate it, but it is much softer to fall off on.
