Did you like amusement park rides as a kid??
The scarier the better, really fast and high ones that were put together by seriously dodgy looking carni’s ??
Then when you were MUCH MUCH older have you taken your kids and stood at the bottom of the ride and looked up?
You’re kind of excited right?
But then you look at the constuction as an adult…ok we can look over that health and saftey is better these days right?? THEN the ride starts and suddenly you realize you’re not 15 , getting spun around makes you want to puke and shiiittttt I don’t like heights anymore!!!
You know THAT feeling while you’re on the ride … This should be fun, this should be fun but why am I wishing the ride would stop (usually followed by OWWW did my neck hurt this much as a kid?)
Well that is how I was feeling BEFORE I even got on the bike on sunday. I sat there at Newnes in the boot of my car looking at the bike, waiting for that super excited feeling to hit me but only feeling like I wanted the ride to stop.
I wanted it to be fun, I wanted to feel that confidance I used to have but I just couldn’t summon up the feeling. And with noone else there to kick you along its easy to start second guessing whether or not you should be doing this at all. I was have SERIOUS lack of confidance issues.
After what felt like an hr (more like 10min) I got on the bike and took it down some easy looking tracks.
The bike was brillant. I went through sections fairly easily of deep sand that would have (and previously HAVE) thrown me on my butt. Rocks were no problem at all it glided over all of it.
That bike certainly has the capabilites to be ridden well and fast. Just wish I could. Its a great bike it really is. There is nothing at all wrong with the bike.
I’m pretty unfamiliar with the tracks around Newnes so I just had to pick a route and hope it didn’t turn ugly.
So I’m trying to watch the track get used to this new and much better motorbike and remember where the hell I’m going, oh and most importanly try and remember those skills video’s I was watching on youtube….now how do you take a corner again?? when do you put your foot out/ do I need to put my feet out?? shit sand , ok weight the back…crap really really deep sand, weight the back and more throttle….SHHIITTTTTT not that much.So after 2 hrs of riding (not constant mind you) I thought screw this. I’m going home.
I never realized how much motorbike riding is alot to do with whats going on in your head.
Most of the tracks were like this one. So not too hard really. And I got up and down them fine but I was just crapping myself the whole time!
I’ve lowered the bike today and it feels alot better to be able to get the balls of my feet on the ground. Despite what other people have nagged me about I do not like to not be able to at least put the balls of my feet on the dirt. I wont ride tall horse either (i prefer quarter horses …..maybe I have an issue with falling distance
I don’t think that was the issue on Saturday though.
I just need to ride more I think.
I want to do some MX or flat track course so I can learn how to safely increase my speed. I’m determined not to wreck this bike so I want to know when I could be doing something better.
I booked a trials course but they cancelled bc of bad conditions and I can’t get back in till sept.
I almost feel like I need to learn to ride all over again. Probably a good thing really.

Those 310`s are a great little machine for sure and should serve you well…I really suggest that you invest in a Spot Tracker though,, especially if riding alone out there, no phone service adds to the predicament should something go wrong
Thanx for the report, humour and pics
I was too lazy to get up this morning for my solo ride :S and have spent the day in front of the idiot box with the F1 coverage (damn dissapointing that was too, Aussies blown away again)  :pinch:
March 17, 2013 at 8:36 am #238370That is some seriously gnarly stuff to ride in when you are familiarising yourself with a new bike!
To put things into perspective, you have gotten off Mr Ed and gotten onto Phar lap! THe Husky is an awesome bike, that will serve you well! Great ride report!

March 17, 2013 at 10:02 am #238367Thanks guys I need to learn to listen to myself a bit more I think.
From talking you lot I think I’ve been fed a lot of BullS&*T by some local riders trying to talk themselves up. Oh well some men are prone to over exaggerate I suppose
I was told to toughen up that was an easy ride.

That would be great. Give me a few months to get my head around this bike first. Not that I care if I look like a rubber chicken on a pogo stick when I’m riding just so long as I don’t fall off
.
