Well the search for a replacement of my DRZ400 is over. I have spent a couple of months trying to decided what would best suit me and then find the right bike for the right price.

I was basically after a big trail/ADV bike for long day and overnight rides. No Simpson desert crossings in the near future. I was happy with most things about the DRZ other than the gear ratios so I was looking for something with a nice wide ratio box. Not after a single track weapon I have the RMX for that.

The sensible choice would have been a DR650. There are plenty out there at decent prices but I just couldn’t do it. I know there a great bike but oh so boring and need lots of work.

I didn’t bother looking at Tenere’s or KTM690 as just to much money.

Looked at a few KTM640’s but they all looked like they had been around Australia ten times even the ones with low km. KTM’s don’t seem to age well.

I then began to consider a new Husky TE630. They can be had for good prices at the moment but still a bit more than I wanted to spend and wouldn’t leave me any money for extras which pretty much every bike in this category requires.

Then I found it. 09 model, price was right, proper dirt bike suspension, fuel injection, not overly heavy (for this style of bike), very offroad capable with only 768km on the clock. That right 768, not even made it to its first service. Completely standard and unmolested other than a Whips bash plate and Barkbusters.

    Husqvarna TE610IE :woohoo:

Awesome find Scotty. Was it much more than than the Dr650? Better handling, suspension and motor than the DR! EFI nice! Hope you loved the first ride. Great day for it.

Galey I enjoyed the run at SC and am looking forward to the birthday ride but will probably be in one of the grade 3 loops.

As for price of the big Husky, cost me less than a new DR650 would have. Considering its as good as new and has a few extras Im pretty happy.

Now I need to find some goodies to add to it. I see birthday ride auction has a couple of Barrett pipes listed. I may have to bid on one of those. I loved the Barrett on my DRZ and I know Tiny had one on his 610 which he was happy with.

Twobanger that’s what the guy who owned the 610 was after in the first place. I think he was remembering the 610’s of a decade ago when they were more enduro based. He eventually realized his mistake and is now looking at a TE449.

Maybe I will need to update the RMX to match. Nah bugger that it’s still the cheapest and most fun bike I ever bought.

What a costly mistake for the bloke,he must have loved those 769k of tight stuff.

Kind of like the bloke who owned mine really needed the 610/630 for where he lived. A wr250 would make a nice pair ;)

Not much of a ride today. The flu has got a hold of me and I had to take a dog to the airport which took up half the day. Now I’m working over the weekend so I may not get out on the big girl till next week some time. :(
