On the weekend at Sunny Corner I was chatting with Steve the Adventure Guru Smith while he setup his camp. He produced a sleeping that was about as thick as tissue paper. I laughed and said he would freeze to death in his sleep if he got to sleep over the sound of his teeth chattering. Cool as he produces this thing called a Thermolite Reactor Bag Liner and says happy days.

He wasn’t cold so they must work I figured. So on Monday I ordered one from Adventure Moto a +15 which is the warmest they make it arrived today

The idea is that I can use a small light weight bag on the bike and use this to make up what the little bag lacks in warmth compared to the winter bag I use that takes up almost one side of my bike.
It weighs 330grams and fits in the palm of my hand

I will give it a run and pass on my thoughts

I guess I should have added he then put the reactor liner in the tissue thick sleeping bag

I have been told you can on warmer nights use it on it own, put its as thick as a tee shirt yet works in a bag.

I like the fact that now I can take my summer bag (its tiny) and use it all year round

    Hi guy’s,

I actually have one of these already and used it last weekend (at the cancelled B’day weekend  ). I purchased it a week before.
My current sleeping bag is more or less a three season sleeping bag (summer/autumn/spring) I think it’s a +5 rating, but I took it to see if the Thermolite Reactor liner did the trick or not. While I didn’t freeze on the Friday night I certainly wasn’t comfortably toasty warm. Actually had a bit of a shiver going on most of the night and was pretty much awake from about 4 am onwards. The next night I used a hot water bottle and was much more comfortable.
Like you TB I wanted to see if my light weight sleeping bag cut the mustard in winter with this liner. Personally it didn’t work for me as successfully as I would have like it to, but I am a born and bred Queenslander and I don’t have a great tolerance for the cold weather.

We have to remember I wasn’t frozen to the core in what was rather cold conditions, so overall I do give this the nod. However, I do question the true rating of improving your sleeping bag by up to 15degree , I would suggest more like 5 degrees. The liner is nice to sleep in though, it is a nice material and if space is truly at a premium this is a good idea. I plan to upgrade my sleeping bag for the upcoming APC, and I will be taking my Thermolite liner for the alpine sections.

    Cheers,

Awesome write up FF that’s the sort of info people need and want. I did question the improvement of my bag by 15 degrees which is why I bought the 15 over the 5 or 10 they offer also.
As I don’t seem to feel the cold and the next ride is Cape York where it will be between 28 and 15 degrees I will just pack it for Justin (just in case  )
Nothing worse than a nights sleep when you’re on the edge of cold. Sunny Corner was freaking cold! Thanks again for the write up

    Go team APC :woohoo:

I found Sunny Corner to be quite warm (heaps warmer than I had expected) :) Bundy helps
I took my full two piece bag as Pete was carting gear for us ,,, but normally would only take the lighter half of the bag,,,, Full bag takes up a full andy strapz bag pretty much

One of these liners should help out I reckon,, thanx for the review guys ;)
Might grab one before my next trip away
