I actually sold the chinese crappa yesterday.

I’ve been itching to get back into it for weeks now that its gone I’m on the hunt. Hubby suggested I wait , save, and get a new bike  . But there are so many great second hand ones the few thousand difference is better in my pocket.

So if I put some links to adds I’d appriciate your feedback.

My ultimate dream is to own a Berg. But maybe when I can actually ride properly :P

But I’m open to anything thats Light, 4stroke and nimble oh and not so small I ride with my knees around my ears so anything under 250 is out. I’d like a 450 plus BUTTTTT I think I probably suck at riding too much at the moment.

    oh yeah and I like change from 7k please….. I don’t ask for much do I ??

    GDay Oldgirl,

I reckon about a 2007 KTM 250 EXC 4 stroke with Electric start would suit you well.

You dont see too many of them around as most guys like the 450s.They have all the good gear on them from factory.

Even a WR250 4 stroke about 2008,good power delivery and forgiving on the long rides as they dont wear you out as quick.

I believe these would be about 5 – 6 thousand??

I was in at Highway Performance bikes in Rockdale/Sydney today and they had the first bike above there ,not sure if it was for sale or not but looked in good nick. Ask for Bob or Julie.

    Hope this helps.

 I see you’ve heard about my riding style  I just like to see the track from different angles thats all.

The only thing that puts me off a Yamaha is someone told me that the older models have cheap rims and crappy brakes. Seeing as I tend to um take the harder route up hills I’m worried it might be a bit delicate for me. Is this true? I could get a Husky
KTM is a possibility why oh why do they have to be such an ugly color!?!?!

I should tell you that the crappa actually broke down 2km up the road AFTER the guy paid for it

He test rode it paid for it got up the highway and it lost all power…..

So there I am at 6pm last night on side of Great Western Highway with 4 kids in the car fixing that *&i*(ing bike.

The stupid battery terminal was loose which casused a short and blew a fuse. I did take a friend of friend with me so thankfully we had the problem sorted in about 5 min. $550 did not include road side assistance!

    Hello Old Girl,
I would advise to you the same as I do anyone who is new and wanting to have a bit of a go to learn what its all about.

Yes a KTM / WR 250F are good all round bike but they require alot of maintenance, don’t really like crashing, and cost a bit to repair.

I think when starting out a TTR250 or even an older XR 250 are an excellent place to start.
Low seat height, nice easy to use 4 stroke power, NO RADIATORS to damage when you fall over, long engine rebuild intervals, longer service intervals, easy to work on etc etc etc.

The TTR also has electric start so I would go with one of those.

Once you a flogging that to a point that you want to go faster but it won’t and your not falling over so much, then you can look at stepping up – it will be time for the berg ;)

Not wanting to argue with Trailraider but the WR250 is a pretty bulletproof bike and lower maintenance than a KTM or a Berg. The TTR is also low maintenance and reliable but probably a little heavier (at a guess).

Flying Fish has one that she uses as her adventure bike, Alyssa is another one of the ladies that rides one.

Its cool Jeffro, we all have an opinion, thats what OG is after :)

    Handy thread this one
As I have a mate at work who wants to get back into riding and has been asking me plenty of questions.
I have steered him clear of the heavier machines and towards the KTM/WR 250’s
I don’t think it will be long before he’ll be wanting to come out with us so a lighter bike would be the go.
He is a fitter and should be able to do all his maintenance
We will be keeping an eye on this thread.
    Cheers

Hmmm no one has mentioned the 310 Husky?? any reason?

Yeah someone told me to by a TTR but it weights 131 kg!! Seeing as I often ride alone and have to get the bike on and off the trailer by myself 30kg extra is a lot. I once got trapped under my crappa bc I slipped putting it on the trailer and the whole 145kg fell on my back.
Then that same day it fell over in the trailer while driving home and I couldn’t lift it up.

Thankfully I’d thought to change into a short tight black denim skirt and low V neck shirt after my ride…..needless to say I didn’t have to pick it up OR tie it down ;) ;)

But I’d rather not rely on random men driving by to pick my bike up for me

I rode a KLX250 and that was comfy but when it came to the tight single stuff it was a bit too bulky. Was probably just me though.

I’ve heard the WR’s don’t handle that well on the road? Is this the same for all lighter 250’s

    Hey oldgirl,
I started on the xt 250 and LOVED the little donkey,
Only problem was no clearance in ruts
I have spoke to a few other learners,
and they were happy with the ttr230 and ttr250 and klx250

when i got my xt, i just went in and asked for a bike that i could touch the ground on, that wouldnt scare me to death!!
I didnt test ride, just took it home and away i went.
So in my opinion, just go with a bike that you will be comfy on, know is reasonably bulletproof, easy to get parts for etc and worry about the ins and outs of all the bikes later on when your ready to upgrade, plus the more people you meet out riding, the more bikes you’ll get to check out and ask peoples opinions on.

    Just my 2 bobs worth

if your keen, your more than welcome to take my wr 250 for a spin,
She is lowered, seat shaved, so if height is an issue, atleast you can see what its like modified for the height challenged!!
Just promise me, she wont end in pieces or a recovery mission like your last bike did, if not the offers there, we will tee something up

You will not be disappointed with a WR 250f oldgirl.
Apparently they were a chicks bike when I owned one so that box is ticked
Maintenance is f@#k all compared to my CRF and you can get parts for WR’s in towns that don’t sell water.
Second hand they are cheap, and if you find the right one you will never look back. If it does not work out you wil sell it what you bought it for. Last week I bumped into the guy that bought mine and he sold it for $500 more than he bought it for 👿 It is now with it’s fourth owner and has an original top end. Serious!!!
