:woohoo: Now, That is the “SCHNIZ”
Top marks CEL & of course TB,,, it has TB written all over it, I have seen him in action on a project bike (even participated in one with him a little bit ) and that is for sure what a 400 should look like !!!!
Would love to hear the reaction of the previous owner if he sees it mate, really I would
Enjoy it now “even without the E Leg”
May 30, 2010 at 8:22 am #180180Good work Cel & TB Looks like a 2010 model XR400!! Why Honda dont make one with a starter is beyond me they would still go out the door like hot cakes!! Top job boys.

Look at DRZ sales and Honda had the perfect bike yet they turned thier back on it in favour of a valve bouncing CRFX.
Crazy. Then Suziki come out with the RMX without ADR.
They really need to talk to each other as they are making the same mistakes

Top job boys.I recon if Honda made this bike with an E start it would outsell the CRF 10 to 1. Heck it might even beat the DRZ as OZ’s number 1 selling bike.
How soft have we become that E start can be a deal breaker when buying a bike.

Yeah if Suzuki were to make a RMX style bike with a DRZ motor, or Honda a CRF with the XR400 motor I would be first in line to hand over cash.

As would many of us. I think somehow the baby got thrown out with the bath water.

May 30, 2010 at 9:20 am #180181Thanks everyone… The big test will be a ride….
It has been said many times that Honda should have just updated in 2005 and added a starter and maybe the style and look of the BRP.. They decided to give up on it… Makes one wonder though.. Mate of mine just grabbed himself a brand new DRZ.. He went with it based on the thread I started “which bike”.. Sold his XR as he wanted the electric leg…..
I’ve been going through the numbers I’ve recorded since purchase.. I’m sitting around $5.5K all up over a one year period.. However $1k is pure bling and was probably a bit unnecessary..
I rode up and down the street today trying to fine tune the pumper carby.. she is a bit troublesome getting started when cold, but once warm she was OK except for the farty fart fart mini back fires(machine gun) on deceleration working down the gears.. I played around with the lean/rich adjuster on it and was able to get rid of the mini back fires.. Went slightly richer….
More pictures I took this avo.. Ready to go and ready to be dirtied up………
Nice Ass

He was a big boy and upgraded to a KTM 510 I think..

May 30, 2010 at 11:53 pm #180414Hey cel thats the best xr400 I have seen for a long time can I put my order in for mine to be done  Since I bought my xr many moons ago I have replaced only a few things but added some extras the steel braided brake lines are a good investment as is the pivot pegs I just did the clutch and a new rear tyre last week I still run original carby but have added a fmf Q4 pipe which is a little bit quieter than the stock pipe with the after market endcap This bike well serve you well. After reading about your rust on the bottom of your frame I will investigate mine and maybe I will polish up my bashplate to make it look new again  Great job guy’s

Hi XRTRAILHACK.. Just talk with TB mate he will sort you 100% as he always loves a good project, especially an XR project..
I would also not mind joining in on the fun.. So much to learn and doing it again would be fun!! I thought about the FMF Q2 or Q4 but I reckon they’re over priced.. I might try the Ballards exhaust end…
May 31, 2010 at 1:33 am #180467I have one if you want it just let me know I also have some other bits in a milk crate original stuff I replaced with after market bits As for the pipe I got mine from the states $390 with postage it took about 10 days Check Ebay out thats where I buy my stuff for my bike. The baffel works ok but I did notice that the FMF Q4 pipe made the bike quieter and it feels like it breaths better I also replaced my airfilter with a K@N Metal type
May 31, 2010 at 6:51 am #180468Congrats Gents. It look awsome….for a honda
The money wasn’t wasted on the bling mate. It looks great and a one off to boot.

June 6, 2010 at 6:37 am #180183Well after its maiden voyage I was not happy with the Edelbrock setup.. She was hit or miss on getting her started and when cold I had trouble keeping her running.. Once she was fully warmed up no real issues other than mini machine gun backfires on deceleration..
The throttle response was pretty good, no bog and no instant in your face response but sort of eased into the power.. This allowed a much easier use of the torque of the engine..
Well…
I decided I wanted to eliminate the back firing once and for all.. I got a hold of the Edelbrock manual and started reading.. Low and behold I was never “really” adjusting anything every time I thought I was making it richer.. The Edelbrock has this cool little dial a thingy on the top of the carby.. It allows you to adjust the needle inside bringing it up or down to modify rich or lean.. All the stuff you read on the net mentions just pushing down on the adjuster and turning it right for richer and left for leaner.. However the part everyone always leaves out is the throttle has to be at “full throttle” to do the adjustment..
Once I did that I could feel some resistance and felt the click.. I went 1 click to the right.. Turned the idle up slightly and she kicked over first go.. Idle was fairly steady, starting out high and adjusting itself down slightly, then I fine tuned it down more.. Took her for a run up the street, hit third gear and let go of the throttle.. Very little back fire but still there.. Adjusted it one more click to the right and took her for another run up the street.. This time no back fire.. I gave her a fist full and got shocked as she now has a bit more in your face responsiveness.. Nothing like the newer bikes but better than the stocker..
Now that I know how to properly adjust the Edelbrock the next run on the trails I hope to get it perfected even more..
June 15, 2010 at 2:50 pm #181138Nice looking bike you have Krusty. Looks awesome. I really like the look of the xr’s with the cr shrouds. What is the build quality like of the Aloop kit? All fit good with no issues?
