Trying to plan a ride to a small town about 50ks from tamworth, half of this ride is on dirt roads and a stock route, and the other half will hopefully be on the servic areas along side the railway lines. Does anyone know if you are allowed to use these road or not????????

I did a track safety awareness course and use of the railway service roads is certainly not legal. Some places get policed hard, others don’t. Not recommended unless the line is inactive IMO.

I reckon if they arent fenced off your good to go, some of the ones around here have gates to keep you out but others don’t. Just my opinion though.

All I can tell you Eagle is that the bloke running the course said that as a surveyor, even if I want to go on to railway land to locate ONE mark I am supposed to contact the nearest ARTC office and arrange for an escort, permit and timetable of trains in the area. Its ridiculous and no surveyor would do that in most cases unless they were spending any decent amount of time in the railway corridor. The railway corridor is in the control of ARTC and is not a crown road.

That being said, you would have to be caught for it to be a problem. Where are you looking at this railway service road Boony?
