Last weekend we headed up to Mt Seaview to give Protty a hand to set the special tests for the AORC to be held on Sept 10-11.
Mt Seaview is a cracker of a spot to hold the event as it is 7000 acres of goodness!
Adam, Sam, Connor and myself headed up on Saturday morning and met up with Protty at his house he has up there. The sky was grey and heavy and you could feel the moisture in the air and it was obvious that it was gunna dump its load before days end.
First of all we all headed out with a quad, sledge hammers and a ton of white pegs to mark out the special tests. An hour or so of work saw the first two tracks marked out and then the fun began. We got to go out and cut them in by riding around them, no sooner did we start riding them it started to rain and it continued to rain for the rest of the afternoon.
Young Protty looks over his shoulder making sure his roost was hitting the mark on young Sam.
That didn’t stop us though as we had a ball, especially on a section of hill that I cut in using the XR650. I initially meant to run the track straight up the hill but the XR had different ideas and somehow the track now has a dog leg kink in it ¾ of the way up. As it got wetter the hill got harder and we spent the rest of the afternoon doing the hill climb challenge.
As darkness fell, we headed back to Valley Haven Homestead for a few beers and a yarn around the fireplace. As The rain continued to piss down, Protty as promised, knocked up a ripper feed and turned on more beers and we ended up doing a fair job of getting pissed by nights end. Considering how hard it rained during the night it was a surprise to wake to such a glorious morning
So we had an awesome breakfast and kitted up for another day of cutting in trails.
WE had to cut in about 4km’s of travel trail between tests, up and over some big hills and snotty gullies that proved to be a bit of a challenge but fun. Once that was done we headed out to sort out the last of the special tests by riding it in.
Just before we headed out to do it Dickies missus arrived with Dickies two sons, she frightened the life out of the young fellas as she crossed the river in her RAV4
Just to show how good he can ride Sam rode across the river just for laughs. Don’t worry TB I wouldn’t ride my bike across it either! The river was cranking!
The crew heading out to cut some trails
In the end Adam and I just sat and watched as the young fellas cut sick around the tracks
It was a great way to spend a weekend, thanks to Adam and Sam for coming up and lending a hand!
I have kept the descriptions and photos down to a minimum as we don’t want to give too much away about what is waiting for the riders in the AORC. You guys that are sweeping are in for a ball, the only hint that I have is that expect it to be wet and muddy so a new tyre would be a great idea.
August 30, 2011 at 8:51 pm #207922Another top weekend of riding hey Mick.
As it turns out I could have come up, I was meant to be flying out for WA Monday morning and so didn’t want to risk not getting home if something had gone wrong but as it is, I am still waiting to go due to a stuff up at the other end.

toesYeah Toes, he could do with a hand this weekend. He is looking for some workers.
I am booked elsewhere so I wont be able to make it.Give Protty a call and gee it up.
That goes for anyone else that can give a hand.August 30, 2011 at 11:14 pm #207924What a top weekend it turned out to be :woohoo:
The rain only went skin deep
and I only got one leach :pinch:
There’s no way better to get to know your new bike than on three special test sections and a transport section thats as hard as the special tests :woohoo:
Take Mick’s advice and fit a new tyre
It will be (and was) very slick in places
Thanks to Protty and Mick for the oportunity to see how its all done
and for a great weekend for Sam and I
See you all on the 9th. Can’t wait :woohoo:
Adam.
