Well I did it, I spent the money and finally bought a decent (best) adventure helmet. I am yet to test it but known as the bench mark of Adventure Helmets (and should be at the cost!! ) I cant wait to try it

The photos dont do the colours any justice, it is light and feels very comfortable. Will let you know how much better it is than Nickj’s aria as soon as I give it a run

Hope yours is better than mine TB, I was rather dissapointed.
Mine is very noisy for the $$$$’s and I prefer to use my old Zeus adventure lid. On the plus side it has a larger port for bigger view and you can wear full size goggles with the visor up if its dusty. I found if it was raining you could wear goggles with the visor 1/2 up, keeping the rain off the goggles for better vision. More sun burn with the bigger port thou ???

I also have a Zeus and it is a better helmet than the RJays but the Zeus is to heavy. Both leak more water inside when it rains than outside, both fog faster than you can blink, the liner in the Zeus started breaking up in 10 months. The Rjays is noisy, its the worst helmet for noise I have ever used, it also rattles, the latch is a pain in the arse and the fit is shit. I don’t wear or carry goggles on ADV bike I will go back to motocross helmets if I want to wear goggles. If the dust is that bad I just drop back a bit and enjoy the day seemed to work on Bollocks LR tour as it’s not a race. Time will tell but if it’s not better than two low entry helmets I will give up  I used to wear Shoei and Bell helmets years ago and was always happy I hope it will be the same, but don’t worry I will tell you if it isn’t

Isn’t anywhere outside of where you live going somewhere Rocket thus making you a tourist? Or when you visit Wauchope you are a local or a tourist? I have been plenty of places and now the states yes and loved it, have you been there? The other two trainers with me on the trip bought me the sticker it relates to my road rage I have for tourists and the way they drive so slow and looking at everything   The saying was Greg hates three types of drivers, tourists, old people and worst of all old tourists :P :P

I bought a different sticker for Nicks helmet from the same shop, will post a picture of it up

Well after doing nearly 2000 kms with the new helmet I am stoked. It is very quiet, so quiet in fact Nick can hear the difference (or can’t hear  ) through / over the bluetooth. It’s is so light and makes a difference over 8 hours of riding, it’s great.
The vents work, they are not just there for looks you can feel the difference. It has 6 vents, more than the cheaper Shoei copy Arai. It also has the 5mm first click visor opening that works so well Arai use it also, thanks Nick for showing me that.
It doesn’t leak in the rain and doesn’t fog like my cheaper helmets. Would I now pay full RRP for it knowing what its like, hell yeah

I tried a THH / FLY, it leaked was uncomfortable and was heavy, I have owned a Zeus and a RJays there aren’t many left to try. I am convinced that the cheaper helmets are just that for a reason, quality. Standards maybe the same and meet by the cheaper ones but the difference is in the above comments.
Bottom line is it’s my opinion, but I have owned or tested all but one of the major players and paid for each except the FLY / THH

If Mickp still has his that he doesn’t like buy it from him quick smart I reckon

Ok nine or so months and 20k in I am very happy with my Shoei Hornet helmet. As stated before I have tried a few different brands and owned a Zeus and an Rjays. The Rjays I wore twice and gave it away the Zeus I kept as spare because out of the cheaper helmets I reckon it’s the best.
The Shoei is lighter, quieter, doesn’t leak and is very comfortable when worn on a long day (recent rides of 13 and 14hrs) The Shoei doesn’t seem to suffer the same turbulence that the Rjays and the Zeus suffer on the Tenere.
The peak supports a Go-pro while still being light weight, the visor as pointed out to me by Nickj has its first click open at 5mm which prevents fogging and doesn’t leak water. The ear pockets comfortably fit speakers for the either blue tooth’s or UHF PTT kits. The helmet as plenty of vents and allows good air flow around you head, you can actually open the vents while riding and feel the air flow on different areas around your head.

The only thing I don’t like about mine is the replacement cost when I need to buy a new one :(

I recently noticed that even Mickp has gone back to wearing his Shoei so they must be good

Well TB based on your feedback I decided to have some retail therapy in the bike shop and bought a Shoei Hornet and had its first outing yesterday….. 11hrs of riding and I have to say OOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGG…. it was worth every cent. :woohoo:

The other helmet was heavy, every time you looked sideways your whole body went with it with the force of wind and you couldn’t hear yourself think “keep elbows out, body position” yadda yadda yadda… and other things as well…. but I’ll keep that to myself….

So yesterday I was thinking more (not a good thing sometimes!!!) and my shoulders and neck weren’t so tight….

Thanks for sharing your views on the helmet…. I know I’m going to have many km’s of joy with mine.

Well 18 months on, my Shoei has done probably 50k now on my Tenere, and a growing list of Adventure X’s bikes. Well today I stripped it and gave it a close once over and washed the liner and cheek pads. Gave it a good clean checked the visor, lubed the pivots and cleaned the vents etc. Its been a great helmet I would recommend it to anybody that wants a decent ADV helmet. Doesn’t leak, minimum wind noise and is light. I always wear a head scarf so it doesn’t get sweaty and smell. I noticed after your comments Mickp you have gone back to wearing yours? Sunburn hasn’t been a problem either after your tip, I use sun cream.

TB, where’s the best place to buy these from?
Certainly look good and want to for the price

I had the shoei for around 20k loved it BUT speakers make my life hell after about 4 hours even tried thin ones which were crap.

Ended up buying an XD4 which has way more room for the ears. I love it but i loved the shoei as much. It’s a lot noisier but I never get sore ears even after 8 hour rides. I do have to wear ear plugs with the Arai but I am getting used to them. I also find the Arai slightly lighter. The eye port seems a little smaller in the Arai, the Arai comes pin lock ready as well.

Both great helmets, if they had built in speakers or more room for speakers I wold still be in the Shoei.
