AnonymousShe looks mean mate. Shame the rider looks like a fairy though
I reckon you should get some decals for the fork guards to make here even more ‘racy’
July 26, 2009 at 11:07 pm #145325Menace how’d it go, improve the snap off the bottom end?, might run a bit lean on the pilot with normal jetting, Mine did but maybe not as every bike is a little different
Excellent price too, they’re a couple hundred new and well worth it at that.
Bit of trivia Flying Machine Factory was founded by Marty Moates the first non-european to win a Motocross G.P. riding a stock YZ465 out of the back of a van with his best mate as his mechanic, Marty came and raced in some of the early supercross in Australia in the early-mid eighties and was loved by Australians for his easy going manner. Unfortunately Marty took his own life several years ago either on, or just short of his 50th birthday. Was and still is one of my all time Bike heroes.

July 27, 2009 at 12:07 am #145331Was discussing short silencers on the way home from a ride yesterday. I always thought shorty’s improve bottom end. My astute colleague with more knowledgeable years claims it takes from the bottom and gives to the top end. Anyone with practical experience confirm what the effect is on “current” model 2smokes?

Anyone with practical experience confirm what the effect is on “current” model 2smokes?Sorry it would appear your “astute” colleague is WRONG, short silencers on a powervalved smoker improve bottom end response and torque dramatically. In days gone past they were referrred to as “supercross silencers, as supercross riders need instant boogie to clear the large obstacles on those tight tracks with little runup. A long silencer will help top end, this is not to be confused with “baffling” and this is where people get confused about 2 stroke pressure waves. A 2T pipe that is well designed and has a good integrated silencer/muffler should have a constant “push/pull eefect in the right sequence of waves to firstly.
#1-Allow the gases to escape and expand as they heat up in the chamber.
#2- create a back pressure to push the fresh intake charge that overfills the combustion chamber and into the header section of the pipe back into the combustion chamber.Which is why a 2 stroke has far more volumetric efficency than a 4t.
