February 28, 2012 at 3:49 pm #217288Saturday morning came around bright and early. Had a breaky of champions. Bacon & egg rolls. (Thanks Mick for the catering. It was awesome all weekend.) Moose turned up at 8 and we were ready to go. Never ridden Mick’s backyard. It was awesome riding. Heaps of different terrain and some big hills. Had a ball all morning. Had a great blast with Lefty and Crash in one section. It was unreal in the loamy sections.
Whilst waiting near a big bog hole Nickj said “Where’s DJ?” I said “I didn’t know” so we headed back up Finger Hill (I think it was called). I rode half way up and met DJ on the side of the hill. He was out of breath and had sore ribs. DJ explained that his chest hit a big rock. We had a spell for a minute and then met up with all the boys down the bottom of the hill. We put DJ in the middle of the pack and I took over the sweeping for the rest of the weekend. We done a really slippery trail and then a wicked fence line trail. It was unreal. All the boys were on the gas and having a ball. We regrouped then headed back to Mick’s for lunch. Thanks to Moose for that awesome loop Saturday morning.
Saturday afternoon we headed out to Moose’s for a go on his freshly cut grass track. As we got there Moose was still in his tractor and had just finished the last corner. TB took off and everyone else followed. I thought we were just going to cruise around the track – wasn’t I wrong! It was on for all money. I had the best time with Lefty and Crash banging bars in every corner. TB was fast on the kato and was awesome to see him up the straight. We all had a blast on this flat track and just wanted to stay there all afternoon. On my speedo I managed to do 55km on that track that afternoon. Thanks for making the track Moose.
We headed home for tea and watched all the footage of the day on the big screen. It was a top day. Thanks to everyone involved. :woohoo: :woohoo:
…Spud…

February 28, 2012 at 10:54 pm #217316Firstly, a BIG BIG thankyou to TB for removing the suspension from my bike, taking it to TEKNIKS, picking it up and then refitting it. And then fitting my new underbar Damper and bars. Much appreciated. You da man!
Secondly, a BIG BIG thankyou to Mick n Mel D for allowing us to invade their peaceful oasis and look after us like silkworms.
After we arrived, unloaded and said our g’days – it was straight into the final bike preps for some. Mine, Chicken, Dejay etc. We gave each other a hand and had regulation stops for pizza, beer & piss taking.
On Saturday, Moose took us on some great trails. It was the usual mix of leafy wide single, rocky uphills, flowing twin, tight tree lined single, boggy rutfest, steep tricky downhills etc. It was pretty humid in some of those deep valleys. There was bugger all dust, a tiny bit on some of the transports, that’s all. The group flowed really well. No sooner did you get posted on a corner – the sweep was on you within 60 seconds or so at the most. A lot of fun was had by all. Some great passing and bar banging going on which was great fun. TB was loving the 530 – plenty of mombo at the flick of his wrist, it seemed to be handling the various terrain really well. Rob was punching the DRZ along nicely, he also seemed to be having a ball, getting pretty loose from time to time (like the rest of us!)
The giggling assassin (aka SPUD) was on fire on the WR. Chickens’ XR was throwing sh#t everywhere as usual. We all kept each other on our toes – back off too much & someone would be around in the blink of an eye.I’d better post this before I lose it, back in a minute.

This was the first proper ride on my CRF. It’s geared for the tighter stuff as you’d expect for a 250. So, it took a while to get use to the totally different power delivery and handling characteristics. With much less weight than the XR, you do it so much easier through corners and decending the downhills. There just isn’t the inertia trying to push you straight on all the time. And as a result, you do it physically & mentally easier. I had a great mornings’ ride and was loving the “little motorised mountain bike”
The surprise of the weekend was “MOOSES GRASSTRACK” The track he slashed into his paddock in about 15 minutes flat, was a cracker. It had everything. double apex corners, hard biting corners, a bend over a slight hump that unweighted the bike, a long straight with a kink 2/3’s down and more – Excellent.
Everyone gave it their best. There were no big spills or accidents. A couple of low speed lay downs, that’s all.
TB on the 530 couldn’t be passed. Nothing kept up with it down the straight. The CRF would be kissing the 530s’ back wheel as we entered the straight………..then it was bye bye TB, he was gone. I could gain a little when pulling up into turn one and then could slowly haul him in but couldn’t go around him. Then the straight would come again…….off he’d go – he was too quick for me.
The long straight was horsepower heaven. It was interesting to see, The KTM400, XR630, KTM450 & WR450 would all put a gap on the CRF250. Even the YZF250 would slowly pull away, not as much as the bigger bikes. I imagine a CRF250R would pull away too, being a rocketship motocross bike like the YZF.The suspension on the CRF was feeling sweet. It seemed to track well as the power was delivered. Soaked up the hits well all day. I moved the top fork adjustment 1 turn to soften it a little.
This was a magic day…………I reckon I’d drive there just for the grass track!!!!!!!!!!!!I’ll be barrrrrck
February 29, 2012 at 12:35 am #217332Cont’d again,
I rode the 530 and thought it was excellent. Power, handling, stopping – the full package.
After the grasstrack, it was back for a cool down swim & ale.
Saturday nights’ feast was very impessive. wedges/fish/calamari etc perfect. Then it was something new. TB had brought along a projector so we could see some footage and pictures of the day. Then it was a DVD to finish off.
In morning, Spud & Rob cooked the bacon and eggs. Better than the cooks’ from the morning before! Well done boys
Moose was there again to lead us through some more perfect terrain. The group was a bit smaller and moved along really well once again. It was another day riding in paradise. STM was now part of the crew and was having a ball.
There is certainly some beautiful country out there. And those trails are GOLD.Summing up, as usual it was a happy easy going crew whom were all eager and willing to help out without even being asked and were keen to have a go and keep each other on our toes.
Once again, thanks to TB for initiating to tour
mick n mel d for there hospitality
Moose for his Leading and Grassstrack
And thanks to Chicken, Nick, Dejay, Rob, Lefty, Spud & STM for your company.I’ve got some video, It may take me a little time to put it up, but I’ll get there.
