As the butt of many jokes for missing Saturdays Coffs ride
 👿
I’m posting this picture for fellow KTM fuel injection owners on Old Bulls so they don’t have to endure the torment and riddicule that I suffered at the hands of so many non believers

I phoned the new Coffs KTM crew on Saturday morning describing the symptoms the bike was suffering after Fridays ride and they said their 90% certain it would be the fuel filter and described how to find it.
A very helpful bunch of blokes and I hope they prosper
I’ll post a picture of where the filter lives when Sam’s washed my bike
Coffs KTM also said the service manual says to replace this filter every 15 hours ( you can see why :pinch: )
However the owners manual makes no mention of it in the service schedule 👿 if it had this predicament would not have arisen 👿So for the believers the dream can live on
Adam.
November 27, 2011 at 11:32 am #212313That was a shame to miss Saturday mate but I am glad you got to ride on Sunday in what was incredibly good conditions. Great news to hear that Coffs KTM nailed to problem off the bat and got you back in the game. I will drop by the shop this week and thank them for you.
Cheers

Thanks in advance for that King
I may have missed Saturdays trail ride but I had an absolute blast on the beach Saturday arvo testing the new filter :woohoo: :woohoo:
Whilst were on KTM problems, Lefty had an impromptu stop to his ride on Saturday and found it to be his kill switches
Luckily I spoke with him Saturday night about this as Sam’s 250 developed what turned out to be the same problem on Sundays ride  and when I caught up with Sam and sweep Nickj was able to go straight to this and disconnect the switch and all was good.
This is obviously a weak area on the katos and should be checked by all owners
Hopefully these are the only problems I find with my new stead
Adam.
November 27, 2011 at 4:25 pm #212314Hello Adam,
Sorry to hear about your problems on the Coffs ride.Though i will not have to worry about a filter in my fuel injection (carbies rule) i am interested in the kill switch problem.
Can you post up the issue and the fix?
Thanks,
Rebore.

Rebore, you too will become a believer
its only a matter of time
As for the switch, on Sam’s 250 it was the stop / start switch on the throttle side which was giving the problem
The tempory fix was to simply disconnect it where it plugs in behind the headlight but then you have to kick start it.
Lefty said both his kill switches were playing up. Not sure how he dealt with the clutch side one
Hopefully he’ll post up his fix
I’ll pull apart Sam’s switch and see what the issue was however a better quality switch may be the solution
November 27, 2011 at 6:06 pm #212327I spray my switches with contact cleaner after every other ride.
Seems to have worked with my last two Kato’sLooking forward to your write up on the fuel filter, Adam
KTM Newcastle gave me a spare filter for the weekend.
Luckily I didn’t need it.
Evidently they are waiting on coarser type filters to come inI have also requested a workshop manual but have heard that they are not in the country yet??
Cheers
MurphNovember 27, 2011 at 6:45 pm #212328It was not all a loss on Saturday at least we still had a roost and wheelie session on the beach! Good times.
November 27, 2011 at 8:45 pm #212315The beach ride was a blast. :woohoo:
The old DRZ put up a good fight draging the KTM 350.
Someone said we were only surpose to go maximum 25kph on the beach.
Im sure my speedo was only saying 14kph when it my front tyer was in the air. :laugh:November 27, 2011 at 10:52 pm #212337Adam
quick fix buy a DRZ400 never saw one stop all weekend unlike the hare chrishna brigade. All the cock ups with them have turned me off going orange!November 27, 2011 at 10:56 pm #212345ride a ktm350 than see how your drz feels ps seen plenty of drzs shit to.would rather my 300 to a 350 but the 350 uses half the fuel and beets me in drag races

Fortunately Adam has given some great advice for the owners of these new bikes because there are teething problems. You might want to ask Axel about fuel consumption in 2 strokes Rocket as he gets over 130 km’s out of his. Mal5.1 got 69.2.

November 27, 2011 at 11:29 pm #212349pity you did not get to ride them there nice to ride love the fuel injection smoken who i ride with has not broken down with his but he has a filter sock thing on the fuel filler cap hole .stops dirty fuel before it gets in the tank think the dealer fitted it for him in predelivery.it goes hard if you rev it

It is the reliability that steers people away, especially when it was the same 1 or 2 problems.
One of our crew went to the Sydney bike show to enquire about the new 500 and after I told him about the problems over the weekend he has decided to keep his carbied EXC 450 for the time being.
I know manufacturers do testing prior to release but the best place to test is in the off road series, but when the top riders are on MX bikes this is near impossible. Maybe something needs to be done here.
Just my 2 cents worth.Buzz
