Came across this in the Trailbike Adventure magazine.
Airhawk comfort seating system.
Might be worth a look. And they make em for DRZ’s.

AnonymousThanks for that Jak. I had seen them but discounted them because I thought that the upholsterer would be a cheaper option. Turns out there might not be much difference in price anyway. The only thing that worries me is how much higher it would make the seat. But I could find that out.
Thanks
December 17, 2009 at 5:22 am #165507That wouldn’t be a big concern on a motard anyway would it? How much would it be for a lowering link?

How much would it be for a lowering link?Yeah it is because I can only just touch as it is and I really have to check the camber of the road when I stop to check what foot to put down. In regards to the lowering link though, DanD reckons he can make me one
I am not a big fan of lowering links though. Admittedly I only had one in the bush which really stuffed up the suspension but from what I have heard if you put a lowering link on a motard you have to be real careful with your setup of the front.
I really didn’t want to do that because I didn’t want it to be set up wrong.
The original idea for the seat was to get it softer and a bit taken out as well so that it was a little bit lower for me.
DanD was talking to Chris at Sutto’s yesterday and he reckons that doing it yourself is easy to do. So I am not sure what we are going to do now.

The numbness means you dont get the important feedback from the bike through your butt.It might sound a bit gay but it’s true.
KD; I think a good upholsterer can put a thin layer of very firm foam under a thick(ish) layer of the nice soft stuff and probably still use the original seat skin and probably lower the seat height slightly at the same time.

AnonymousYes Wikd that was the original plan. I noticed you highlighted good and I laughed at that.
I have had good reports about the upholsterer at Gateshead but they couldn’t do it until the new year and you know I am impatient.
DanD rode the DR to Wisemans and back today and now understands my concerns about the seat (I must also say that he did actually ride without me whilst I stayed home and looked after the kids, probably the 20th time this year BTW  ).
But yes I think I will do that Wikd. For the Jan ride though I might get a pair of nix (i think that’s what they are called).
Hey I also have another good motard ride to post. It’s a really good loop. We were looking at the 16th of January if you are free. I just need to make sure that I have a babysitter and all will be good.

December 17, 2009 at 11:48 am #165552You should try the Gasgas seat after a couple of hours  Bike pants and lots of baby powder are the go  I just ordered a Polisport softseat option from the UK delivered $175
Funny you mention the DRZ seat as being hard as the RMX seat is bewdiful
although if It was just road riding that would probably be a bit different

December 17, 2009 at 8:12 pm #165557You’re all too soft and need good dose of Harden up.
You are welcome to try the beemer for half an hour (if you last that long).
Safe to say there is no seat harder unless it’s made of wood and steel.Personally, I found my DRZ seat perfect for the dirt but too hard and narrow for the road.

I agree with you though Beemer they are ridiculously hard (solid rubber arnt they?) definatley not intended for the average trail bike rider Do they come out in a softer version for the latest models?

AnonymousWhy don’t you cut the sheepskin up and stick down your riding pants instead of on the seat? You might look like you have a little more junk in the trunk though

Yes there has always been a softer, wider one but I need something to complain about.

Hmm, good idea Moto but who’s going to clean it?

AnonymousI wear padded underwear that lost it’s padding a long time ago really but you could sew the sheepskin to the exterior of your underwear (like my padded ones) but still inside your pants. No mess, no problem
