Did my normal sunday ride to work this afternoon and i noticed have way there the speedo stop F@#K it i thought. Then when i jumped on it again after work it was working again till i rode for about 5 minutes and then it went back to Zero.
So when i got home i waited for a little while thinking it might somehow be getting hot and stopping and sure enough i hoped on and it worked for 5 minutes and then zero again.
Any ideas?????????
November 29, 2009 at 8:13 am #163123See if this wasn’t in the tech help section I would say its wired to your blinkers, on and off and on and off and on and off. But alas it is so
Corey, is it cable up to the speedo head or is it electric pulse pick up style mate?

November 29, 2009 at 8:25 am #163138Corey check if the magnetic pick ups are clean, tight and haven’t be bent out of range of one another, they have to sit within 5mm of each other.
Also would pay to ring your dealer and ask has there been some sort of problem with the speedo heads as I sort of remember something about them but cant be sure
I will go down the the local dealer myself tomorrow as I will be close by and suss the whole setup out on the bike so I can help more

How good a bloke are you TB. Thanks heaps mate.
November 29, 2009 at 9:59 am #163124Don’t know the exact sensor but have had a fair bit to do with other magnetic/ electronic pulse pick up sensors
It would either be what TB said or
when it warms up after having current go through the wiring and actual sensor head they expand within cable and or sensor head and lose contact
If there reasonably cheap throw away and start again
But in saying this don’t kow the sensor but i have a lot of sensors that do this over time
Cheers Bob
November 29, 2009 at 5:21 pm #163152TB; have a look if the head senses a magnet or just bolt heads.
Seems a bit wierd even if it a bad connection.November 29, 2009 at 7:20 pm #163165Yeah thats the plan WB, just keeping it simple to start with

AnonymousI did have something but then re-read the thread and it wasn’t applicable.
But when I first got the 450 I had the same thing with the speedo working and then not. I thought the worst but it ended up that the wire that runs from the sender unit on the front wheel to the speedo had two broken wires. I added a piece of cable into the whole thing to make it slightly longer, insulated it and hey presto problem fixed.
That was a few thousand K’s ago now and it has never played up since.
