A good mate of mine gave me a call during the week and said that he and a few blokes would be camping up in the Cells river region and that I should come along for a ride. I don’t need much of an excuse to go for a ride in the Cells so I was all for it.
I hit the road at 6.30 am after milking a tank of fuel from the bikes in the shed (avoiding the 2 bangers).

The Cells is 100km from my place via Comboyne and the Bulga Plateaus, so at that time of the morning, I was well and truly rugged up and was still freezing as I hit the Mountain. I stopped at Ellenborough falls for a quick look. The highest single drop falls in Australia at 200 meters.

At this stage I was fairly high up in the hills, about 700 meters and it was frosty. All the bridges and roadside were covered in ice

A 45 km run saw me at the nominated camp site and you wont believe who I saw there.

    These two idiots

Plus Snowy, Aaron, Damus and PEP.!!!

A quick cuppa and we were under way with Boony leading the way we soon found our selves at a dead end and had too turn around and head back up the hill. The trails that followed would have to be some of the best I have ever ridden.

A small hold up took place when Bollock’s WR wanted to play silly buggers for a while, which was diagnosed as a blocked pilot jet. A bit of fiddling around, saw it sorted and we where under way again with the WR running again.

Here are some pics from the ride.

WE battled with some over grown trail that hadn’t seen bikes for a long time.

More random pics from the day.

PEP’s chain came off for no real reason

    SDC10720-1.jpg

The XR decided it needed a little rest and we had a lay down over a log, so being in the lead at the time, I decided it would make a good photo opportunity, to my dismay no one else came unstuck on the log.

Snowy took it in his stride.

    Boony hit it at speed.

Bollocks nearly came off but styled it instead.

Damus showed everyone how it was done and did it easy.

A few other obstacles made for a challenging ride.

Check out the look in Boonys eyes in the foreground. IN THE ZONE!!!

    SDC10711.jpg

Some of the best trails I have ever ridden ensued before we found ourselves at Blue Knob look out, where we met up with another group of riders.

    SDC10731.jpg

A quick yarn with the boys and we were gone again headed back to camp. A few beers and a feed and I was just about to head off when Bollock’s fat arse went through his camp chair, this is the second chair that Bollock’s has owned that I have seen meet the same fate.

    SDC10732-1.jpg

After a quick feed and a top up of fuel I had to hit the road for the 100km ride back home, arriving back in Wauchope at 5pm.
I did 290km for the day and had an awesome ride.

Special thanks to Boony for the invite. A thanks to the boys that rode with us and also thanks to Snowy and Boony for the fuel.

    What a top day out!!!

The ride that never was . What a ripper !! Greta trails great place to ride and camp and a great group of blokes. Saturday was an excellent ride and Sundays was just as good even with less riders. Boony, Aaron, Bollocks and myself spent the day exploring the multitude of trails and even spent 40 minutes on foot going through the old gold mining set up in the cells. The day came to an end with Bollocks throwing away his bike at high speed on a forrest trail corner. We all showed our normal level of sympathy (none) and called off the coffee trip and returned to camp to finish up. Drove out to gingers creek for a feed and watched Aaron eat the worlds biggest burger. Awesome weekend thanks boys. Remind me to get grip heaters !!

Yeah PEP, Made it home safe, I even had a quick run through some awesome single trail that I spotted the other day near Comboyne on the way. It soon became obvious to me that the MTB boys had cut it in so I will leave it alone in the future, but it was good.

I even stopped to vote on the way home, I got a few weird looks when I lobbed in full riding Kit covered in dirt.

Man I am loving the new suspension on the XR!! :)

First of all thanks Mick for organising such a great ride,
Snowy09 and I departed tamvegas Friday morning and set sail for dirt bike heaven, commonly known as cells.

Due to the amount of water running through the creeks we pulled into Apsley falls for a look.
We made camp about 11.30 and shortly after Damus turns up,
    20082010002.jpg
    20082010003.jpg
so we went for a ride, I knew where there were some old trails that needed some exploring so of we set.not all trails where clear sailing .

    20082010009.jpg

Bollocks and Aaron fronts up at some god forsaken hour and we sat around the fire having the odd beer and Bourbon.
The ring of knowledge was small but powerful that night, (I have to stop having these Friday session)
Saturday dawned and the sky was blue, the air was crisp and there was the sound of a 650 echoing through the forest, Ohh the tranquillity. Sure enough it was the mayor of Wauchoppy tearing up the trails on his way to come for a ride. Dam he look cold when he got off his bike , so we jammed a brew in his hand and lent him some warmth from our fire, Geez where nice people.
Not long after Mick stopped shivering and could feel his fingers,PEP turns up.
    21082010001.jpg

Bikes were prepped and we where off, We had no plan, so I set off in the general direct of east? Or was that west, for argument sake we will say it was south.
End of the first tight single, I done a head count, yep 7 people so off I went at lightning speed straight up another awesome single, I gets to the top of this narly hill and then realise I was alone. Back to the start I toddled only to find 3 of the blokes sitting there like shags on a rock, apparently Bolls lost his Go Pro.
We set off after they found it and rode some really neat trails; we got to have a break when the 250 decided it had, had enough for a while. The mechanical minded people in the group attacked and before long she was all good.
    21082010003.jpg
    21082010004.jpg
    21082010006.jpg
We just kept turning down anything that slightly resembled a trail, talk about have a ball.
Some of the trails were shit but most were just awesome.
We gets back to camp, Mick ,PEP and Damus left for home, The remaining super hero’s decided to attack what is now known as the Kokoda trail, before heading to an area known to have phone service.
Sunday seen plans being made for the infamous cappuccino run, We headed off only to be slowed by my 400 running out of electricity, fuse replaced and where off. We even done the touristy thing around the gold digging areas. Out to the main road for a transport section when I notice Bollock standing on his pegs and then all of a sudden his bouncing along the road like a dam buster bomb.
Snowy and I stop, to find Bolls laying in the gutter, we looked at each other and said shit he landed laying on his back pack, how can we go through his wallet now.
It took a while for him to come good, well kind of good, we rode wingman for him all the way back to camp, threw the bikes on the utes and left.

Thanks to all for making it a fantastic weekend,(get well soon Bolls).

Nice one Boony, all the credit should go to you champ, thanks for the invite. I am still smiling about what an awesome day I had. Just what I needed!! I will admit that was one of the most welcome cups of tea I have ever had!! FOX dirt paw gloves obviously weren’t designed to keep the cold out, as my fingers were burning from the cold. It was worth it though. What a top day and great riding conditions. The XR just laps up that sort of riding and on the main trails she really comes into her own.

Yeah Jeffro, she is a heap taller than she was before, the rear spring had sagged pretty well. When I am sitting on it I have to reach the ground by tiptoe. I cant believe the difference it has made to her. I have much more confidence, throwing her into a corner and also letting her have her head going down gnarly hills.

Here’s hoping that Bollocks is all OK, I was disappointed to hear he binned it, what a crap way to bugger up what was a great ride in the Cells.

The ride started out with an epic road drip that included standing on the a frame of the bike trailer at 100kph.For the purpose of retaining your sanity we will not go int details here. Bollocks very politely drove so I could lighten the esky. It was dark when we found the camp ground and it was lucky we got there when we did. Boony,Dahmus and Snowy were sitting in the dark and stone cold sober. Somebody had forgot to bring the matches and they were under strict orders not to start the party till we got there. The fire was soon blazing and the smoke seemed to be constantly heading towards Boony. All we had to do was keep our distance and we were sweet. We all hit the sack early(early in the morning) as we had a big ride the next day. The next morning we were treated to the most magnificent sound that a rain forest has to offer….. An XR650 with the throttle frozen in the angry position! Mick covered the following events well so I won’t repeat. The singles we went on were fantastic! The only issue was that you kept wanting to turn around and hit them a bit faster. At one stage I was following Mick who had a very sideways moment on a slippery section. In the excitement of yelling encouraging words I almost repeated his close call. In an attempt to slow the big 650 down I tried for the old log in the crank case trick  Mick carried on as if it hadn’t happened. They grow them tough over here it seems. The view from the top of the look out was fantastic as you can see in the picture
    20082010004.jpg
    The scenery was good too.
Pep did his usual trick of saturating somebody with the use of a puddle. It would have been really funny if it wasn’t me :silly: My usual nemesis of the creek crossing came back to bite me again. Once again at least it wasn’t done in vein. Bollocks was there to witness the uncoordinated attempt. He did you all proud and laughed himself silly as I dragged my sorry wet but out of the freezing water. :laugh:As the water was so cold Bollocks had little time to get the camera out to please all of you! To add insult to injury Bollocks then climbed the step up out of the creek like a pro…… Prick.
Boony and Snowy dragged us into the enchanted forest just so they could laugh at us getting dragged off the back of the bikes by vines. At one stage we were so far into the jungle that I noticed three red laser dots in the shape of a triangle on Snowy’s back. But luckily Boony knew his way out and the thumping DRZ lead us all to safety. Even though we had escaped the ‘Predator’ we later had to return to retrieve our skin anyway because the vines had ripped it all off  The last day was going really well as you all know until Bollocks had his slide. We limped the crew back to the camp so we could drive home and have the coffee we were originally going for. Bollocks sat back and pretended to be really hurt until we had totally packed up all the gear. It was only then that he resumed breathing without the use of an artificial respirator. We started the arduous journey along the rough road with the patient drifting in and out of consciousness in the passenger seat. He would only awake to inform me that it was not necessary to drive over all the bumps  I now wish we took the Hilux to Wauchoppy for the Teknic treatment.Bollocks has since fronted to the emergency department for an Xray. He was told that the procedure was not possible because blood tests revealed he had recently been exposed to high doses of gamma radiation later traced back to a antique gas lantern  As a result the rest of us are now in isolation. Gingers Creek shop turned on a feast for me to treat the symptoms of Suimin overdose. Once under way Bollocks came under the influence of Ibuprofen and smooth roads and we enjoyed the drive home. A big thanks goes out to Boony and Mick and all the Tamworth guys for such a Great weekend. Once again Bring on Nundle!
