I read a story recently on ADV I think where guys activated a Spot for a mate with a broken leg and had a call from the US within 10-20 mins I think (they happened to be near a phone tower and had service)
They had just gone into panic mode, activated the spot not realising they had service and all was resolved quickly and no fuss. The entire Spot site is US based but worldwide coverage and they then divert to the relevant country and state emergency services
I will try and dig the story up to clarify
July 30, 2013 at 8:10 am #235917Just picked up a Spot Connect (early Fathers Day present :woohoo: ) – Still trying to get it set up on line, I think it’s right
Looking for some advice on whats out there to attach it securely it to a camelbak strap. Not sure the plastic clip on the back will last

July 30, 2013 at 8:25 am #247290Yeah mate having fun (i think) setting it up – pity that holder you spotted me (pardon the pun) doesn’t fit.
Next time we catch up i’ll give it back to you. Would be nice if there was one like that for a spot connect.
Time for google search I think

??July 30, 2013 at 10:05 am #235919That is the standard Spot 2 holder that comes supplied with the unit.
Just the same as the one I showed you at my place mate,, I have another type of cheapo one that I got from another guy for free, I think I gave you the Spot 2 foam filled one didn`t I ??You are welcome to come around and see if the Connect fits the other I have and you can use that if it works

LinzJuly 30, 2013 at 10:20 am #247316The spot connect falls out of the small holder I gave you Eagle I found out the hard way, but found it  those holders like STMs were great but they didn’t do a range of holders do them. When mounted on my bars both my connect and spot 2 used to turn off.
I have mine a little different to STMs as I was worried, probably for no reason about it being damaged in a fall. The down side to where I have it now is it isn’t as easy to get to but it’s easy enough is with me rather than on the bike. All the spots I have ever seen them mounted have pros and cons

July 30, 2013 at 11:10 am #235920When I bought mine they said it was ok to leave it in it’s protective case and stick it in your jacket top pocket, they said it would work fine.
Does this sound feasible? :unsure:July 30, 2013 at 11:21 am #247328Trailraider wrote:When I bought mine they said it was ok to leave it in it’s protective case and stick it in your jacket top pocket, they said it would work fine.
Does this sound feasible? :unsure:My experience is they are sensitive to a clear view for tracking. There are two different things here to consider. If you are using it for emergency and ok messages only mounted in your pocket or like STMs (pretty sure Scott doesn’t use the tracking feature but purely the safety feature of being able to message for help or ok.
If you have the tracking feature like we use on adv rides they need to have a clear of view as possible of the satellites which is why on real rainy heavy clouded days and in heavy wooded areas the tracking isn’t as good. That’s why I have mine mounted with the front of it facing as upwards as I canTB
