Yesterday the %#@*% cord that starts my #$@*% whipper snipper failed to retract like it is supposed to. Having dealt with pull start recoil set ups before I was aware that there is a #@^&%# long spring in there that is a #@*t to get back in, so I was being extra careful when I pulled it apart, to no avail, the spring went “twoying” and shot out near taking my eye out in the process.
I battled with the @#*&ing thing trying to get it back in for quite some time before giving up in disgust. I actually used some choice Australian adjectives in the process.
At this stage I figured there must be some trick to getting the *&$#ing thing back in. So here I am, hat in hand asking does anyone know how to do it??
Maybe I should have put this post in the KTM section, as one thing I noticed yesterday that Stihl equipment is the same colour as KTM.December 22, 2008 at 7:58 pm #115809Yeah mate honestly the trick is walk the the Otto bin and throw it in, go down the road and purchase a 4 stroke honda whipper snipper, never will you have a problem again they are the bomb!
December 22, 2008 at 8:12 pm #115812No mate, I intend on keeping the Stihl as it has given me 20 years of trusty service even though it is ORANGE.Besides I run Motul 2t oil in it and it smells good and reminds me of the track…LOL
December 23, 2008 at 9:53 am #115815Can you put a kickstart on it:blink:

When I raised the compression ratio I should have put a heavier starter cord in it though. Now it hasn’t got a starter set up on it, I have to put my rattle gun on its flywheel nut to start it. Now it has air start like a Mack Truck.December 30, 2008 at 12:53 am #116232
AnonymousCheck you and your blinged out whipper snipper! With those mods she should be pulling more horses than the XR
December 30, 2008 at 12:56 am #116236I did replace the homelite blower with a stihl one, TB now has the homelite one.
Also bought the mrs a little electric blower from K-Mart for $20.00 this thing is amazing nearly pumps out as much air as the stihl and it is very light. Lot easier to get into the tight areas, the big downside is that you have to lug the extension cord around with you.

December 30, 2008 at 1:00 am #116239I would like to meet the guy who invented the whipper snipper…And punch him in the face as many times as it takes to start my whipper snipper….i would be punching him in the face most of the day 👿 👿
December 30, 2008 at 1:02 am #116241Had a ryobi shitter that use to be like that, I think I ended up polevolting over the fence and smashed it. The homelite starts 2-3 pull everytime.

December 30, 2008 at 1:03 am #116237Mick,
Just get the wife to go get a new one. You probably owe her a present for Christmas (perhaps you should have gotten a salt AND a pepper mill!) After all she does the mowing and snipping doesnt she……tsk tsk
I bought a new Victa yesterday for less than $200 started first pull. ( no inference to masterbation please) -
