Does anybody know how many back teeth equals one tooth on the front. Looking at gearing my 07 525 down. First gear is to tall. I have tried a 13 on the front but didn’t like it. Thought I might be able to change the rear sprocket by one or two to find what I’m after.
    Any coments welcome.

1 on the front is equal to 4 on the rear, rule of thumb

If you were running 14/52 changing to 14/50 would be a better option. As TB points out changing the front sprocket down a tooth is roughly equivalent to 4 teeth on the back.

What gearing are you currently running Murph?

    Hey Moto
I was running 14/48. Too tall I felt so 14/50 will probably be what I’m after.

I was going to say Murph that whiterocket was running 14/50 on the big 530 without any issues. We did a fair bit of single track that weekend. Well, most of us anyway

14/50 was stock on my 08 but I found it made second and third to tall – I now run 14/52 – it has taken first out of play in most situations but made 2nd and 3rd (tom some exctent) great gears in the really tight stuff and on big hill climbs.

I was running 14/52 and have just switched to running 14/50. I stalled a few times in the tight single track as I clutch it up in 2nd a lot. It’s much nicer for more open stuff though.

Despite everything I plan to go back to 14/52 as I preferred that gearing overall. I’ll just rev the bike harder when I want to go faster :P
