I have the MSC damper too and very happy with it.
For the BMW it is an under bar mount which replaces the original bar mounts but you loose the bar position adjustability, it’s the same as the centre mounting holes. The whole setup is good and adjustable easily on the fly.
Two other good things, MSC are a local company at Mangrove Mtn, and they service the dampoer every year for free, you just send it in to them.
I cant find their website but Call Mark or Simone on 02 43741655

AnonymousI really liked the Roc Stompa unit Chop has on his Banana and the MSC on Dan’s 450 did the job well too.
I went with the Scott’s Ohlins unit as they have just dropped their price from $890 to $750. It has been great on my bike so far. Worth it’s weight in gold on the beach yesterday. They are major brand so will fit to almost any bike and don’t need any welding for fitment.
All of the dampers raise your bars by 35mm when mounted under the bars. As a result I mounted mine above the bars. I’d prefer it tucked away under the bars but I’d rather not raise my bars by that much.
I think any you buy will do the job well
October 5, 2009 at 3:37 am #155224Thanks guys. I’ll look into them next week some time.
October 5, 2009 at 5:17 am #155260What do steering dampeners do??????
October 5, 2009 at 11:34 am #155265Dampen the steering movement. They’re simply a shock absorber for your handle bars so when you get on the sandy/rutted/bumpy terrain your bars are stabilised as the dampener absorbs the deflection somewhat.

My brother & I are running Scotts Sub Mounts on our Wr’s. Had standard mounts on the previous bikes.
Once they are setup, they are set & forget for most types of riding. Although getting your forks sorted first will make a huge difference to how the damper works.
I bought mine for the quicker races, Yellow Mountain, Condo750, Finke. Haven’t had a scary moment yet at top speed (WR tops out @ 148)
We bought ours from http://www.motocrossgiant.com/ They were the cheapest & had the cheapest shipping, They were cheaper than Scotts. Motorcross Giant now have a Sydney phone number to call them direct Australia 02-80035797 1AM- 11AM, They may not have what you are looking for on their site, they will order in if req.
Sub mounts for the 09’s we bought through http://www.dirtbike.com.au/ as the dollar was high & their prices were competitive, They managed to get them within a week, when Scotts had manufacturing delays & if we’d ordered them ourselves we would of waited a month.
Go out to Finke & see what 99% of bikes are running (Scotts)
October 7, 2009 at 2:24 pm #155160Mal,
Looking at the Ballards cat the WER says bolt on for most models, saw this pic of attaching the bracket to the frame. The Husky has a hole straight through the frame there, dunno about Sherco.Unless youre keen on breaking out the drill bits!
WER is low mounted and forward, but probly have to hack into headlights,or move them.
cheers

Anonymousi went the wer because of it’s position. i think they have patented this so others may want to make models there but the patent is interfering. i do not like the idea of raising the bars or mounting hardware above them.
i was a little concerned about welding so close to a bearing mount. so i stuffed a wet rag in there to weld. if i spotted steam i would know that it was getting hot. it didn’t.
you can rivet or bolt the bracket if you want (depending on your bike). i went with welding it because it suited my frame and is set and forget. more mucking around though, but it was about time i greased the headstock anyway.you also need to have a non fancy headlight and front guard to run a wer.
I really think the cr design is brilliant (simple, naturally progressive, out of the way, protected, safe, does not change the ergonomics, tuneable for different speeds, cheap to make, easy to seal, will not come loose, do not need to relocate the headlight, effective) but I assume Honda has a patent on that

Anonymousa mate bought a cheap one (ebay i think) it dampened on return. what kind of idiot would design a damper that worked against the castor  .
it also leaked and was sent back many times
October 8, 2009 at 12:14 am #155161Champo,
Was checking out the ADB 310 at sunny corner, with roc stompa between the fat bars looked like it stuck up heaps, it had a pad on it though, reminded me of the ones you used to have on your BMX about 10 mm thick.October 8, 2009 at 1:00 am #155583champo35 wrote:

I asked when I saw a bin full of them in the workshop before finke, marketing ploy I was told.

ok, maybe not effective. work on that one honda
i wouldn’t run a cr one at finke tooOctober 8, 2009 at 2:04 am #155592champo35 wrote:

October 8, 2009 at 2:14 am #155597Are the CR ones too “easy” TB?, cause suzuki had one on early GSXRs that everyone else hated but i liked, as it didn’t affect steering too much, but still took the sudden quick little hits out. And could a steering dampner on a dirtbike help stop my stupid habit of getting thrown from front deflection in ruts?

Quote:I have run a WER a MSC (current) and a ROC as fitted to the DR project bike and some limited experience with the Scott Ohlins. And as far as dampers go I feel an under bar mount is the go as I have one on my bike and think its the go for standing up more
I would trade and am going to trade my MSC for a Scott Ohlins as I like the adjustment set up on the Scotts

Hi Tb
are you trading or selling the msc ( am interested, would only need different mounting kit)cheers Hatto
