Ok, so who’s using what and what are the recomendations?

I’ve been looking and I get the following:

Ohlins/Scotts with underbar mount kit for $1300
KTM with underbar kit for $1330 – dealer said he would give it me for $1199
Roc Stompa with underbar mount kit for $880

Looking at the numbers it’s hard to look past the Roc Stompa. Anyone got any speacial rwasons why I shouldn’t get that one?

The Roc Stompa only allows two bar positions where as the KTM allows all factory bar positions. Nice as it is to have full factory bar options is it worth the extra cash? I don’t think so……

Moto, the roc stompa are a good product I have one on my 99 ktm 300 and it works a treat, also a good aussie product made in Sydney. another damper that I have a real high regard for is the WER ballards stock them, they bolt on above your front fender and you should be able to get one for under $700
I imported GPR ‘s for KTM’s they are a good unit but the aussie dollar went to shite.

    and dont forget the MSC

    hope this helps Ollie

I have a MSC under mount mount and am happy with it, but to tell the truth am very happy with the ROC stompa fitted the the project DRZ, love the fact you can cancel the damper with a push of the switch when in real tight going

Have you spoken with Sutto’s for a price, tell them where your from

Thanks for the input Ollie. I had considered the MSC too but just feel the love for it.

I am more and more keen for the Roc Stompa unit and have just refreshed the password for Sutto’s. I’ll give them a call. I had a look at one in detail this afternoon and I agree with TB, the instant on/off feature is nice.

I think I’ll buy one of them from Sutto’s before Chrissy :)

TB – I feel like bit of a dick phoning Sutto’s sales guy and telling him I have a password – Squirrel!

Can we just say we are from Old Bull Trailriders?

Just called them up. The guy said they were around $800 bucks. I had to push him for him to get a confirmed price for me and to include the discount. He doesn’t have the latest Roc Stompa price list but is going to have a look and give me a call back.

The new MSC has a on/off button too so I asked for a price on one of those too for comparison.

I’ll let you guys know how I go :)

Okay, Sutto’s just come back to me and both the MSC and the Roc Stompa come in at $850 with the underbar mount kit or just under $800 if you don’t mind the over bar mount. They will give 10% discount on those prices.

So unless anyone can better $765 plus shipping I will order the damper mid December :)

i run a WER on the tm and very happy. wer developed it really early and patented it. Therefore no body else can copy it. I like the fact that I don’t have change the ergonomics of the bike to fit it.

MSC manufacture there’s locally (Mangrove Mtn) so it should be good.

Rock stompa also make bling stuff like master cylinder caps and fuel caps. Therefore I am wary of there high tech stuff. (but that might just be the prejudice manufacturing engineer in me)

A mate got a cheap Chinese one of ebay. Hes has sent it back about half a dozen times because it leaks. And the design dampens on return – Not what you want

I didn’t know MSC were based at Mangrove Mountain. I had a play with the bike they have at Newcastle KTM (customers bike they are selling) that had the Roc Stompa installed and it seemed to work very well. I have also ridden a KTM 525 with a Roc Stompa and thought it did a very good job. That said, that is my whole experience with steering dampers.

The guys at DBW seem to like the Scotts/Ohlins units. I might have gone for one of them from the states if the $ hadn’t taken a nose dive.

I think, all things considered, I’ll take a punt on the Roc Stompa. The quality looked very good and my mate has had no issues. We will have to see. As an engineer myself I see your point about it being made by a company producing ‘bling’ though.

Do not be put off with RocStompa and some of the bling they produce,I have personally been to their business,it is only a small operation run by Daniel who is a dirtbike junky, quality gear made in that workshop with some pretty flash machines. He will bend over backwards to ensure customer satisfactionB)I will vouch for his products

I’m confused from reading your post Ollie. Is it a good or a bad thing that he bends over backwards to ensure your satisfaction?

Cheers for all the comments guys. I have definately decided to get the Roc Stompa now, for better or for worse. Nice to have alternate input though.
