HELP!!!
I am fitting a Ralle Moto Steering Dampener like the one Here but have run into a few problems.
1. The dampener comes with it’s own top triple clamp, the clamp bolts are allen head ones and the clamp is countersunk to take the heads of the bolts. Problem there is that’s where the indicators mount so I got around that by using the original bolts but had to shorten them as they were too long for the tapped holes. No biggy just a bit annoying really.2. Fitted said triple clamp and went to fit the bars only to find the mount is for 1 1/8″ bars and mine are 7/8″. Again problem solved, buy new bars and again no biggy just annoying
3. Now this is the main one, the sterring dampener unit itself hangs out in front of the triple clamp and hits on the speedo which causes 2 problems, 1 being that the top dial/switch thingy can’t be operated and 2. There is now about a 20mm gap between the mounting bracket and where it is meant to bolt to the triple clamp. Even if I make up a spacer, the front cowling will never fit properly.
4. The bars are now so high that when I turn full lock to the right the throttle cables pull tight, not sure if this is a problem until I get it running and see if it causes the revs to increase when I turn it.
Ralle Moto get your shit together
Doea anyone have any experience with succesfully fitting this type of steering dampener to a DRZ?
April 12, 2011 at 10:08 pm #199386I would say Jeffro the kit you have was designed for the US model DRZ400E. They don’t have blinkers or the big speedo unit, just a small trip metre and small headlight.

Again is it the right way around mate because the one I saw on a DR at Windsor last year was the other way around

If you move the throttle cable around to the tank side and run the cables on the riders side on the bars by twisting the throttle assembly around that will fix that problem. I will find a photo of what I mean

April 12, 2011 at 10:47 pm #199390Here how to run the cables mate, that will fix that problem
I have looked at the pictures and I think it’s the wrong way around maybe? I am not there of course but am only working at Hexham this week and finish at 3 pm if you want me to drop around for a second opinion?

April 12, 2011 at 11:06 pm #199391There were no instruction that came with it but I am pretty sure it is the right way around, the post and the settings dial (1 to
are at the back but there is another dial thing at the front that has 3 setting M, C and D. The triple clamp mount point for the speedo are in th right place just too far back to be of use.
I took some pictures and will post them up, would begood if you want to come around, I can be home by 3 tomorrow if it suits.April 12, 2011 at 11:11 pm #199393Be there by 20 past 3 tomorrow then mate if you think I can help be more than happy to have a sticky mate

April 12, 2011 at 11:16 pm #199394This is the dampener
This shows the the original clamp, the raised sections are mount point, note the space for cables to pass.
A bit hard to see properly but the bracket with a hole in it is meant to go up against the front of the clamp but the speedo is already touching at the top
This is the new clamp with a bit less clearance
And these cables are meant to go between the speedo bracket and the clamp. The only worries are the throttle cables but as TB said I can re-route them. (Which I had considered but laziness kept me hoping I wouldn’t have to)

April 13, 2011 at 2:13 am #199398The guys at MSC make a really nice dampener but fail on the mounting system.
Mine hangs out the front as well and I had to modify the speedo bracket to get it to sit properly. I also had to modify the bolt holes and retap the threads to get everything to line up. Like you said it’s really no biggy but something that should take a hour to fit turns into a full afternoon and half a cartoon of beer.
Good luck with it Jeffro

You are 100% on the money Mal because these Rallye Dampers are rebadged MSC dampers, they are made by MSC for Rallye Moto
April 13, 2011 at 11:37 am #199387Ring MSC guys, they are brilliant, if there is a problem, they will sort it out-give them a call

April 18, 2011 at 3:19 pm #199397All sorted now. Extended the Speedo mounting bracket,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, twice! Extended it up instead of forward the first time   . I blamed a mate of mine, he cut the wrong legs of the bracket and I didn’t realise, I just added the extension pieces to the legs he cut and it wasn’t until after it was painted and I was trying to fit it that I realised.  .
Also had to reposition the ignition barrel but no big deal there as it was only held in with cable ties from when I fitted bar risers before. Just need to get bigger clamps to fit barkbusteres back on and it’s good to go
Thanks for the advice peoples, I guess I knew what to do all along but was looking for an easy way out being the lazy bastard that I am -
