    I’m no tire expert but,
I got a mitas stone king last year for the husky, just before the wattagans rally and finally relented and got rid of it last week, although it wouldn’t wear out.I wish i wrote the Kays down but guessing 1500 with next to no road use at 50% wear.

Traction was average in the wet but used in the rain plenty of times in the slush, including sunny corner rally 08,was going up one road and remember spinning in 5th gear.I reckon its best suited to the loose rock hill climbs at S/C but after sliding around for so long its replacement M12 feels great.

Would i buy one again? no

Would i recomend one? only if you hate changing tires all the time, and like slides and rocks. And it looks like it could run with no air at all, the case is that solid.

    Good review Twobanger ;)

I used to run them when I lived at Wyee and rode three times a week in a group of guys, I used them on my XR600, wear great but like you say traction is limited and hard to fit :P would I use one again, no

But Eagle has one on his KLX 250 I think its done 3500kms + and 2900 of that would be bitumen, and it works for him in his dirt riding, for him and his riding I think there is no better tyre on the market ;)

    Thanks TB,
You can’t beat the wear value,i didn’t think it would last that long, replaced a failed speedo drive somewhere during that time so might have got a bit more out of it.When thier new they’ve got the deepest tread i think ive seen on any tire.Probly to big for my 250.

Hate to admit it, but, The Stoneking has actually done a staggering 6,218 ks to date:huh:
Yes 80% of that on bitumen,,,, I asked the guy fora tyre that would last on the KLX as I wanted to commute & couldn`t be arsed changing tyres all the time.

I have been happy with the result, obviously (There have been some grip issues though)

    Cheers

My old KTM300 had one when I bought it, I went out an purposely did skids on the driveway so I could replace it, mildly better than a 952, but in the same league of “non-grippiness”.

Apparently they work on really heavy big pigs with lotsa torque in rocky conditions.
