Anyone had any luck straightening a slightly bent alloy brake pedal on a KTM without it going bang?

Thanks TB, never thought about using the heat gun. Will give it a go this arvo and see how we go.

Im with TB Mick.Use heat if you have it handy.
Ive bent them cold in a vice before, had no dramas.
Try avoid hitting it with a hammer.Use a long lever and bend it slowly.

    Heat for sure Mick ;)

I did a bent front brake lever once with a heat gun, and slowly clamping in a vice till she was straight again B)
It does depend on the severity of the bend though

    Good Luck

Correct me if im wrong but heating will weaken. How much, who knows. I would bend cold and slowly.

Hey Mick if you got access to oxy, just use actalene and cover the area with soot, then add oxygen and heat the area watch closely and when the soot just fades or disappears then stop and straighten the item, by doing this you are re anealing the metal see how you go

I just want to see if it can done successfully. I had too many visitors to the shed this arvo :S  and didn’t get a chance to give it a go… might have a crack at it in the morning and see how it goes. Otherwise I will order another one.
I can see where Chicken is coming from, although I had never heard of that process, I don’t have a oxy though :pinch:

My question is  What are you doing with a KTM :pinch:

I bent my gear lever 90 degrees on a stump :( put in the vice and bent it back all was good :)

Having said that I don’t know how much a rear brake lever is and I had a spare gear lever with me ;)

    Adam.

I guess i just couldnt trust a lever that has been straightend, i would be worried that it was weakend or brittle, but i suppose thats where Chicken comes in handy :cheer:

Heat gun is the go Works a treat
I have straightened brake and gear levers by heating them and slowly applying
Pressure. I have also used Chickens oxy method as well and also works great just don’t get it to hot!!!!
That’s where the hot gun is easier
    Good luck with it Mick

    Cheers

Maybe a brake snake will cure the cause

I eventually used a heat gun like you guys suggested and managed to get it straight enough, by slowly tightening the vice as I heated it. I also burnt the shyte out of my fingers when I forgot that heat guns can get things really hot. :S
