Yes it lives, luckily so does the King!
History: The king cart wheeled his Tenere at speed during a ride on the first weekend of Feb this year. He spent some time in hospital and has had a longish recovery time.
The bike, ummm damaged would sum it up. It was cart wheeled, we can confirm because the front and the rear was damaged. The rear was damaged straight down, this means it was hit from the top down or the bike was upside down when it impacted. Seriously the damage is purely cosmetically, looks worse than it is. These things maybe a little heavier but they are strong.
The King is one of the many guys that help us out and makes Rideadv work. He is the King of logistics at Rideadv, few of us really know how much he does. He has also continued during his rehabilitation to organise so much for me and Rideadv for the three rides he has missed.
I would like to thank all of the supporters that have made the repair/rebuild of the King’s Tenere possible. Yamaha Australia through Peter and Shaun with all the genuine Yamaha parts. Adventure Moto for all the accessories, so many bits and pieces and extras it didn’t have before, thanks Steve. To Shed – X for the paint work on the fuel tank (Cheers Jimmy) Lefty for opening up his workshop at GFMS, giving me a key and a help all the time, champion.
So to the build started recently as the King got the go ahead to return to riding
Firstly I stripped the bike down to check it out, was the frame bent? Could it be repaired, was it a write off? Once the tank was removed and all the bent damaged components removed the frame etc. was checked and all was ok. We found the tank had been pushed to the left and the top mount was bent, but that took only minutes for me to straighten under Lefty’s supervision. The forks were removed and inspected, checked all ok. The parts were ordered and the bike relocated from Adventure Moto to Geoff Forshaw Motorsports workshop. This is because it is only a minute from home for me and Lefty was generous enough to offer and make it happen.
We hung it up and it started.
Once stripped and confirmed the rebuild started, the new lower triple clamp and all new head stock bearings greased and installed. A new B and B radiator guard (new didn’t have one before)
Rear racks removed (new ones supplied by Barretts arriving this week)
Centre stand obtained not new but almost (new for the King to have one)
Brand new B and B Bash plate that the King purchased to suit the new Touratech crash bars supplied because he didn’t have a set before
New speedo mounted up on the new headlight bracket
More tomorrow night

July 1, 2014 at 12:28 pm #258036Spent tonight at the shed drinking a few quiet ones on my own and chipping away at the royal steed
Fitted all the screen mount rubbers, plastic headed screws and screen
Fitted a new set of LED blinkers on the rear, they don’t stick out like the factory ones, are brighter and are harder to damage
Fitted the forks, steering damper etc
Attached the heated grips, new fat bars (didn’t have the adapters for the bars I thought I did  so I cable tied them until tomorrow) Fitted all the new switch blocks, adapters and ran the clutch and throttle cables
More tomorrow night

The old bars were a tad bent, must have been good strong ties on those :silly:
July 2, 2014 at 8:53 am #258072Its a new patented quick release system, the ties snap saving you from bending your bars
July 2, 2014 at 11:16 am #258082I must say that TB is doing a great job on the rebuild of the Kings Tenere. I haven’t really done much just supervised and casting an eye or two over the project. Oh!! I did get the lower steering head bearing out……. As TB flagged that job for a little while
Anyway its coming along great and it wont be long before TB……. oops the King  is wheel standing it up Attunga Rd.
Cheers Lefty
