Well, I will try again as promised. Dosn’t seem to be anything on the ride calander for these dates.

    Date: Saturday the 8th August.

Meet: Mt Sugarloaf top picnic area ready to ride at 0900

Ride: From Mt Sugarloaf to Kitchener.

Distance: Approximately 100klm. Petrol available half way.

Grade: 2-3, mostley 2. A good trail ride. Some challenges for those that want to have a go.(Especially the climb to the top of Tumblebee).

Lunch: Khartoum hotel or bring your own.

Nothing too hard on this ride, just a good trail ride. Will involve two areas of bitumin riding. 5-6klms to get around Crasers which is now closed off and a short stretch from Tumblebee to Kitchener to get around another area closed off by National Parks.

Beginners who don’t mind stepping out of their bubble welcome. Absolute beginners might find some sections difficult.

No problem champo. Just turn up on the day if you can make it. No restrictions on numbers.

Sounds good Al, would have been OK for Salina and I on the NX maybe but am riding all that weekend at Hampton and a new location

Are you still using the wiring harness I fixed or have you fitted the new one mate?

Got the brand new one on. Yours is hanging in the garage as a spare I hope I will never have to use!:)

Two up on an NX would have been a bit of an adventure. There are some narly bits.

I have seen some of the places that TB and Salina have been on the NX. Trust me he would have no problem on your ride.

I will have to wish you well for your ride Al as, alas, I won’t be able to make it. Another one missed.

I keep hearing about this Kitchener place too and won’t to go and check it out. Maybe next time (I’m sure I said that last time).

Fixed up a better mount for my GPS today and decided to go for a ride this afternoon.

Was going to do about 20klm to test the mount. Ended up doing 73! Conditions were perfect. The trails out around the Kurri Kurri, Abermain, Abernethy and Kitchener areas are as good as they will get. Just got into a flow and kept going.

The only problem I see is if we have another “rain event” they will become just about unrideable. The clay is moist at the moment, not wet. A good drop of rain will make it miserable. Still, I am enjoying my back yard at the moment.

I will keep an eye on the conditions as solid rain will up the grade of this ride from 2-3 to a solid 3 with some 4.

Will keep everyone informed as we get nearer the date.

Al I have a student in my class here this week that lives at Kitchener and he was tell me yesterday that the National Parks are just about to start a big fence of up that way and close a lot of areas, he mentioned the most of the bush areas around Kitchener itself and the Kearsly Pit area as well I cant remember all the names of the areas he said but it sounded like a lot.

I showed him your post mentioning “Crasers which is now closed off and a short stretch from Tumbleb” and he basically said its just the tip of what they will be doing in the very near future

I will see what else I can find out but it doesn’t sound good for riders in that area

Not just National Parks around here Greg. The local “Friends of Tumblebee” greenie group have just convinced council to close off a large tract of land just outside of Kurri Kurri ostensibly to stop illegal dumping but, conveniently, at the same time blocking the area for bikes.

There is about 8klm of fencing going up. Must be costing the council a fortune and the dumpers will just dump their s*^t outside of the fence where everybody can see it.

Got me stuffed how they think.

So far just you and me! Plenty of time though. Once the Nundle weekend is over people will know better what they are doing.

    Hi Al,

Just checked the calendar and I’m free, so I have marked it down. If you get along with the weather gods it should be a top ride.

With all these new fences going in it sounds like a good opportunity to update my mud maps of the area.
