Great to see the ride went well, first up thanks for the patience, I’m always conscious of the guy who holds everybody’s sacred ride time up through lack of prep….

Initially I was bleeding I made the starting grid, but failed to start the ride.
Why didn’t the ’07 525 want to play?

    Short story –
Mysteriously “she’d” backed out the mixture screw somewhere betwen Victoria and Newcastle to the tune of 2 1/2 turns, excessive idling time combined with no riding for 4 months.
    Can anyone spell “flooded”?

    Long story:
Maybe “she” was jealous of the man sized XR650 loaded with a tank large enough to ride Newcastle-Darwin direct, or the new BMW, perhaps (and most likely) it was with fear and intrepidation that the repuatation of the OB riders/”sugarloaf/Watagans”combined to cause agent orange back it’s own mixture screw out in pure fear…

    In any event:
I’m sort of glad i didn’t make the start given I took the spare plug out of my kit only last week. (Bloody Murphy’s law – Had been carrying spare plugs since 4 strokes took over from 2 strokes A decade+ ago, and only removed it from the back pack Last week from lack of use….)
And I’d hate to get stuck at the bottom of a valley in this scenario…

Got the bike running 30mins after getting home –
Plug was fouled worse then any 2 stroke I’ve seen – seemed strange for a 07 525exc with less then 700 kms on it…..

Further investigation found the mixture screw an additional 2 1/2+ turns out from where it should have been. Combine that with the excessive idling at home/ off the ute at sugarloaf prior to the ride, and weve got fouled plug city.
As a precaution I’ve also drained the Vicco BP premium fuel given it’s now 4+ months old…

Once again thanks for the patience guys –
Now I have to get out and trial some of this world famous Newcastle territory soon…
    Cheers
    Julian

Well here’s how I saw it

A couple of photos, sorry 383hq but its a broken Kato and I have done my time at Hillend and mine wasn’t even broken smiley-angry019.gif

Firstly I had to admire Franks (don’t know his OB name) knee guards/ boot water proofing technique

    P5160017Small.jpg

Then we left for the ride and 383’s kato, which is a pretty tidy Kato wouldn’t play the game

    P5160018Small.jpg

    P5160020Small.jpg

    P5160022Small.jpg

So he went home no ride for him smiley-sad031.gif

We continued on and I was riding like a swapper I couldn’t get my mojo going smiley-dance011.gif and was struggling, we finally got let of the lead by T/W’s and after opening the big girl out I felt much better and rode alright after that, we meet up with a couple of dudes that rode with us. Names sorry guys smiley-confused005.gif and they tagged along, couple of wheelies and some more riding and we came to the gap servo. After a stop there we went up to Muirs lookout on some really fun tracks, the risk of a head on these couple of tracks cant be understated smiley-scared001.gif and although Frank needed playing with I had the whole someone like me could come tapped out the other way smiley-shocked003.gif

Once the tracks settled and it wasn’t so bad I started playing with Frank who I must say is the king of sideways and we had a great time, although I was sticking it up beside him at times and he kept asking me I didn’t want to lead and was enjoying myself no end smiley-excited001.gif

From the lookout we started heading back, we crossed the main rd and wound our way around for a bit until we came across a damp section, T/W’s went into it and started sinking I took a path to the left and started sinking so I pinned the big girl and tractor through, WikdBeemer, myself and Jeffro raced up to the next intersection and waited. Then the others turned up, the guy (sorry again) on the kato two smoker we picked up along the way rode up and guess what? He was right on my back wheel when I rode into the bog, silly silly boy smiley-confused013.gif, the guys had mentioned earlier in the day the bridgestone was throwing some stuff out the back smiley-laughing001.gif

From there we blasted back to the cars, I passed Frank on a real big rocky uphill, sorry mate if I filled you in but I was trying to dent / test the new rims, whilst the others rode back via the fire trail I was doing the single line over the hills trying to cut them of, this saw Jeffro sitting for a while wondering if I had come back out or was lost.

It was great ride I didn’t take many pic’s cause it wasn’t my ride and I was enjoying myself to much

Good job T/W’s, thanks Frank, Jeffro, the two ring ins (sorry bout the names again) and WikdBeemer (your a funny man, good fun)

The 4hrs I spent in the car to join this was so worth it, cheers guys

Oh and 383hq I told you and remember if its not red its DEAD

Just wondering cause I might know him,,,,,,,

Steady Eagle, there was no flogging regarding the broken Kato, I think I controlled myself quite well, I just took some pic’s and didn’t say that much here, certainly nowhere near what was said about my bike at Hillend

i had a similar problem with my 530 the mixter screw fell out when it was about 2 months old the bike did not stop but run a bit rough i just replaced it with a aftermarket one you could adjust with your fingers .cheaper and better than origenal one have not had a problem since have allso found that the bike is harder to start if i use bp98 fuel my last yamaha wr400 did not like that fuel ether
