Apologies if I get any of this wrong as it is my first attempt to post up a ride gathering in OBT.
Location: Fitzroy Falls/Meryla areas (near MossVale)
When: 5/4/09
Will be leaving the entry point of Redhills Firetrail which runs off Gwen Road, Fitzroy Falls at 10:00am. Gwen Road is the first road on the left past Fitzroy Falls visitor centre when travelling north on Nowra Road and is signposted.
The idea of this ride is a selfish one for me as I have found out that there is supposedly wreckage of a downed WW2 plane near one of the firetrails in the area, so I figure that I will be heading out to see if I can find it. This of course will mean a lot of stopping, traipsing through the bush, cursing the fact that it can’t be found etc.
Once I have had enough it will be off into the area for a ride around some of the for open Firetrails as well as a few of the easier not so wide trails that have been found. May even explore a few new tracks seen recently and eventually head for the sandpit for a little fun.
Honestly, this would likely be no more than a grade 1 ride as these firetrails are open, generally wide with a rocky surface with little mud or sand and no real hills or terrain changes of note. The extras that have been explored are much the same although if we head one of the side trails there are probable 2 small grade 2/3 climbs only.
Again, this is really intended as a slow explore and try to find that plane ride but by all means come along and I can explain other areas for you to have fun in while I look around.
Just as a note though, this has been posted in another very small local forum in which I am a member so there may be others but that forum is much like me, slow and interested in the scenery so rides are always slow.
