Sutto had a BIG crash in the Oberon rally today. Both “are by my source” ok but the Polaris buggy is apperently not so good!!
They ran into a Datsun 1600 that was off the road after a loose on a double caution (possibly should have been a triple!!) Chris came along some 30min later (front running 1600) and hit same “dip on cross road” and end for ended off the road into the Datto effectively stopping the roll and avoiding the trees behind!! Both driver’s & navigator’s are ok but both have repair bills (very, very nice Datto only a few rallys old).

May 18, 2012 at 11:06 pm #222042Yes sounds like they are but I bet “Shits are trumps”!
Softer landing on a car that trees especially with no windscreen or sides!
May 18, 2012 at 11:31 pm #222043WOW! That’s a big dent in the Datto, should buff out ok though.
Is the cage and running gear ok?
Glad to hear all are ok. Would be very scary going end over end and seeing a Datto in the way.
Were you servicing for someone 1inarow? God I hope not, I know what you’re like on the spanners (and welding).
May 18, 2012 at 11:41 pm #222046Get in the FAR Q Mal!
No not servicing, at rugby with fluffy… then the hospital for the shoulder x-ray (just real sore)! Pissed off he cant ride tomorrow!
Ben was out there cos his car is shite and not ready!
Yes I think cage is ok, wont quite buff out but will cut n weld out but not by me, some bitch says I cant weld! Luckily I can drive though!
Not sure they would have seen the Datto until they hit it, more like brown, blue, brown, blue……… purple Datto… ouch!!
May 18, 2012 at 11:47 pm #222044Sorry to see the 1600 beat up.

He bought a very sick :woohoo: 👿 👿 1600 Datto from another great mate, whom I have not seen for a couple of years. :blush:Anyway this litle 4 cylinder kept up with my 350 chevy HZ.
And if I can recall rightly (it was a very long time ago) did do the small block chevy on the odd run.
But when it come to the corners ie: Bell line and Rhylistine gorge-spelling- he had me in that damn little 4 cylinderUnfortunately, another mate ended the run of that little 1600
Flipped her, late coming home from Lithgow in the good old days. :pinch:

It sounds like the cage did its job on the Polaris.
I will have to catch up on Monday.

LeftyYes you can replace the bits eh!
I wonder if the chassis on the RZR is cro-mo like a Raptor quad cos the one I bent was the hardest thing to straighten out ever (so my panel beater mate said).
Lots of concern in long time rally guys about the protection factor in an “open caged” rally car. Sutto said “I got 125kmh flat out” at Bathurst rally last month!!
