Here’s my attempt at ride report to make STM happy.
I didn’t get much sleep Saturday night as the wife had a few friends over & indulged in the red wine a little too much & was trying to shake the house of its foundations.
I got up feeling a little weary & had one of Mick’s special breakfast before he seen the light (coffee & a ciggie).
Got a call from Strucky saying he was to crook to come. So I geared up & headed for the meeting point. I arrived to see Bigfella was already there & shortly after Moose & Reedy arrived, waited for them to gear up.
Time to head off. asked Reedy if he wanted to lead. I hate leading I’m too slow & don’t like holding every one up. He declined as he wasn’t sure which way to go. So I took the lead & headed for the 1st single for the day on the way bloody rocks kept trying to take my front wheel out making me a bit unsteady & me thinking what’s a gumpy like me doing trying to lead a ride, anyway got to the 1st single nice tight & twisty & gave you a good work out.
Once out of that section every one was warmed up & straight into the next section.
I waved Reedy through to take the lead from here. This was much like the 1st tight & twisty with a few more gully’s to get through, Bigfella found out how slippery it was coming out of one of the gullies when his bike decided to have a lay down.
This is how most of the morning went Reedy was leading just seeing a track & take it & see where it leads. We pulled up at one spot & reedy was looking a bit lost so I took the lead over as I new there was a nice little single ahead with an ugly little gully crossing that may cause a bit of havoc. To my own surprise I made it through gully without a problem Reedy had a bit of strife. We all pitched in to help him out that’s when I heard Moose say something about being on a riderX ride. Anyway we got through that section & came out under the powerlines by now Reedy was getting a bit concerned about the time as he had to get his kids to a birthday party. So we headed out to main road & Reedy headed home. We headed of into the bush again. I thought I would take moose to this sweat little single on the other side of the road knowing it’s a nice little slippery trail. Started down & realised it was a little too slippery the ground was green. It was along here I decided to let my bike have a lay down came around a corner & a vine a neck height was across the track visions of STM’s experience with vine came to mine so I decided to bail instead.
From here we headed back over to the other side of the main road. Bigfella decided to have a go out front & Moose offered me a go on his 250 followed bigfella on some open trails for awhile then he hit the main trail. I was riding behind him & moose on the mighty pumpkin thinking any minute he will take one of these nice tracks of to the left or right I didn’t care I was liking the feal of this 250 & wanted to get back into some nice single trail. It wasn’t looking promising so I jumped back in front & for where I knew there was a good loop to give the pumpkin a go. Found the trail & was finding riding the smaller bike in tight stuff was so much fun had thoughts of selling the 450 for a 250. Anyway I was having ball. once out of that section it was time to head home we had only done about 50k’s in about 3hr’s but it gave you a great work out.

May 31, 2010 at 8:03 am #180498Great report Puddles, looking forward to the day you can lead me around there. I have done a little bit there in the past and enjoyed it all. BTW any gumby can lead a ride, confidence is the most important thing. It helps if you’ve done the trails before and have a fair idea what is down the trail ahead.
May 31, 2010 at 8:17 am #180499I would love to take you around Cathie & see how the mighty XR handles the tight stuff. After riding Moose’s bike I’m seriously thinking of getting one. just got to get it past the missus 1st considering I have to buy 2 bikes for the kids
anyone want to buy a camper trailer?

I’m already quite friendly with Mal. I’ve had a few pre race issues with Justyn’s bike & Mal has been a great help sending parts up over night
