Happy I could help mate.
July 15, 2010 at 10:24 am #182108I meet a bloke today in Mittagong with a Tenere who told me he had purchased the best, strongest soft pannier racks money could buy (I cant remember seeing a brand) I looked at them and reckon my 5.1’s (above)are heaps stronger, better welds and offer more support for my bags and taillight etc Go shed engineering
Again great job Mal thanks cant wait to prove their worth in Oct
July 15, 2010 at 11:59 pm #183848Great mod job mal you are a handy bloke to have on the team
July 30, 2010 at 8:53 am #183865Some more usable bling and bits and bobs have turned up this week for the Tenere
Firstly as the Tenere runs so lean and I didnt want to spring for a Power Commander yet ($600 AUD) I looked around and found this on another web site and E bay.
Below is the blokes explanation of the device
Basically the XT660 has a fuel injection set up to run very lean for emission control & this causes a slow running condition on our bikes & makes it uncomfortable to ride at low speeds. How it works is there are a few input sensors to the fuel injection system which tell the engine management the environment conditions, like how cold is the motor, what’s the air pressure, what is the air temperature, where is the throttle angle.
What I did is to make up a device that connected to the air temperature sender which sends a false signal to the engine computer. I can adjust any degree I want to make the Engine ECU in to thinking that the air temp is colder then it really is & in doing this the bike thinks its cold so richens up the fuel mixture across the whole fuel map range. There is a CO1 setting in our dash which should be set 10 to 15 above the standard setting so make sure you have done this, what I found on the Dyno that is the CO1 does not adjust the fuel mixture once the throttle has opened it then runs on a map & is cancelled. So adjusting the CO1 will only adjust the fuel mixture at part throttle & not across the whole fuel map range.
As I say this is a very basic device & it uses the Yamaha fuel map, other devices like Power Commander can modify the Yamaha fuel map every 250RPM & is far better device but cost over 10 times more. One thing to remember not even the Power Commander can completely remove the surging but these fuel device do make a improvement to the slow riding conditions.
The mod has had 4 upgrades over the past 2 years to it’s present state. The mods are sold with a 30 day money back guarantee, if don’t like it send it back & I will give you back your money. I have sold over 400 fuel mods so far with 99% positive feed back.
Also my new bash plate is here including the foam for between the plate and the engine they threw in for zip

July 30, 2010 at 9:48 am #184975I thought the bash plate was going to incorporate a water tank.
July 30, 2010 at 9:52 am #184976foam under the engine…
how deep do you intend on sinking the big girl mate
maybe you should throw a come-a-long winch in the panniers mate
you nutter

The idea is great it prevents the bash plate from filling with mud and getting heavier and heavier. Expand your mind mate
you nutter :laugh

August 3, 2010 at 10:03 am #184995So while repairing the, ummm lets say lay down damage, I had to replace a radiator hose. No biggy went to Supercheap auto with the 16mm ID diameter hose with two bends it went through their heater hose selection and got one
Went home straightened the bent crash bar mounting bolt and mount bracket no problems, fitted the new hose and went to fill the cooling system and  Mr Yamaha you need to wake up to yourself and pull your head out of you a#*e and have a think  . You cant fill the radiator with ANY CONTAINER or ANY FUNNEL OF ANY DISCRIPTION end of story
Look at the distance between the fuel tank and the filler neck
Imagine filling that on the side of and outback track
So I had to come up with this shit fight
Not happy Yamaha
I do the as my trade and reckon I had seen my fair share of design faults / poor access to vital maintance functions  by this takes the cake
Did I mention that you have to use and allen key and remove 5 allen headed screws with washers to even look in there, thats only something else to drop in the red dirt and lose
Shame Yamaha Shame
