Is anyone using T6 filters on the carby drain tubes? Are they available here and if so, how much are they? I hear they’re a great engine saver, though I always thought they were Drain tubes, not breathers???

AnonymousThe KTM ones are breathers not sepcific drains. They should have some sort of filter on though, it wouldn’t be too hard for a bug or some other crap to get in there and make a mess of your engine.

Having the end of the hoses cut at 45 degrees has worked on all my bikes in the past and it is cheap.January 7, 2009 at 2:21 am #117196Yeah same Mick, I dont think a bug if it could get in there could hurt anything unless it was carrying a hammer?? lol
The hose are routed so fluid / water cant flow up, you can also cut a vee in the end to stop a rock getting stuck as well
That’s just some of the quality that KTMs have Mick

AnonymousSo a miniscule little bit of dust is enough to destroy the valves on CRF’s but dead bugs sat in your sump aren’t an issue. We fit bug screens to all of the valves and instruments we supply beacuse they stop actuators (moving 10″ valves) from working.

Glad i didnt have to Kick it for the 1/2 hr he did..:lol:

The oil breather hose on my bike runs up over the air box under the seat and into the top of the air filer. I think the XR 600 ones are a S bend style open hose are they not Mick / Chicken?? :blink: Could get a bug up those only if it was stopped. That said you are right a bug wouldn’t be the best thing in your sump but its better the dirt.
Sorry if I was confused :blink: , hoses looked to small for crankcase breathers I thought :blush:

AnonymousYeah, we are on the same page with the hoses. I was just pointing out that a microscopic bit of dust can bust a valve up imagine what a heap of bugs being spayed against your piston rings can do. They can stop a pneumatic actuator with enough torque to close a 10″ metal seated ball valve, opposing a high pressure steam flow.
I agree though that it isn’t likely, or common as it would have been addressed as an issue long before now.
