Motorcyclists are a breed apart when it comes to helping others out in a bind.
Here is a handy link for travellers looking for a bit of work around Australia and lots of other useful info on it too [website belongs to a mate of mine].

If you read back in the thread TB, you will read that I said I would have been more comfortable about the whole job if we had of put new bearings in both his wheels.

Special thanks to Mick for looking after my son.No worries Linz, glad to help him out! Especially because he was on a XR600 and I had the gear to help.
I haven’t heard from Chris as of late so he has fallen from our Radar, which is probably a good thing as it hopefully means the XR is still happily chugging away. If you are talking to him, tell him not to be such a stranger and tell us of his adventures!
Cheers
MickOctober 27, 2011 at 6:10 pm #211052Chris called me looking for work last week but had already gone too far up the coast.
I’m sure the XR will do him proud now it’s had the old bull touch and got the sticker to prove it
October 29, 2011 at 6:32 pm #211054i’m still alive. landed myself a nice job on a kiwi farm up tamborine mountain, so i’m up here for the next 3 months.
XR600 be going well, but seems to be burning through alot of oil.
got talking to some bikers in town and turned out one of them was the father of one of the best mx riders in aus, so he offered me loads of free stuff from his lads sponsers and a bike service. good times.October 29, 2011 at 9:19 pm #211081Rymm wrote:i’m still alive. landed myself a nice job on a kiwi farm up tamborine mountain, so i’m up here for the next 3 months.

March 3, 2012 at 7:30 pm #210565Well an update on Chris. He left Micks last year and as instructed by Mick had new bearings fitted in QLD unfortunately unknown to Mick or Chris at the time the movement in the wheel when Mick fixed him up was a worn hub not bearings. Without new bearings at the time no one could know what was going on. Anyway before Christmas I think it was Chris had put a post up asking could anyone help him I offered knowing he was in QLD but thinking we may have been able to get one to him through the Old Bull network. Imagine my surprise when Chris said he would ride to Sydney in Feb if I could help  . He contacted me just before we left for Wauchope last weekend saying he was on his way down the coast. I bought him a 2nd hand wheel last week for $150 that I was told had worn bearings (remember Mick had thought the same thing as the XR600 has a threaded retainer that stops you checking) so I organised for Chris to run out home from the City where he is staying to fit the wheel. I met him up the road and he followed me home, we said hi and had a beer. The poor old XR sounds great, starts easy but needs some love. It needs a oil change SO BAD, couple of oil leaks fixed, brake pads replaced, air filter done (he has never done it, ever  )
I removed the wheel and went to fit the new bearings I got for his 2nd hand wheel. Guess what, yup the hub is rooted on the 2nd hand wheel  . I have two sets of 650 wheels but no discs as the discs are bigger and the mounting bolt holes are different. So after a rethink a plan has been hatched. I centre punched the hub he got from Mick and loctited the bearing in. The threaded retainer is pretty rooted so I tightened it and centre punched see here
Because he is doing some big remote miles over the next 12 months as he heads around Australia. Tomorrow Salina will take the 2nd hand hub down to Teknik’s and have Nick sleeve it for a new bearing thus reconditioning the hub. He is coming back next Saturday and I will fit two 2nd hand new to him tyres that I have here and supply him with a spare or two whatever he can carry. I will give him a couple of 2nd hand standard tubes (he has none and I have heaps of them here when I fit ultras for peeps) I have 2nd hand throttle and clutch cables here from my XR600 days that have been kicking around here for 6 years, I have some spare gear levers, and heaps of other XR600 shit and have told him if he can carry it he can have it. One mans trash is another mans treasure
It will get an oil change, air filter done and I will get some oil seals for the clutch and gear start shafts and fix them and some new front wheel bearings. (Can give him a set of second hand ones for front and back) It’s a win all round I get rid of some 2nd hand tyres that are OK but I wouldn’t use normally and would cost me to dump. The XR600 stuff I have kept for some unknown reason goes to someone that needs and can use it. Salina is stoked as I gave him my Rjays ADV helmet today, I hate that thing only used it about 5 times and hated it and she is always telling me to get rid of some of my helmets  (back to 10 now  )Might see if I can find an exhaust shield to replace the tin foil aftermarket one he has fitted
Will take some pictures next weekend, and enjoy the day as he is living in the middle of the city at the moment with Hippies
