i’ve been in this country a month now and had the honda XR600 nearly as long so i finaly got round to finding some dirt to play on.
i went down to beaudesert to buy an oil filter and the bloke there told me of the dirt tracks just next to where i live up tambourine mountain, so on my way home i decided to pay them a quick visit, not to do anything serious because i had no water, no idea how long the tracks were, no armour, no one knew i was there and not allot of experience riding on dirt or with the motorbike.
well when i got there that plan went out the window, i started hitting the jumps and sliding round corners and such like and eventually found myself going down a crazy steep, heavily rutted track. it was then that i started remembering that i have no health insurance and that i probably wont be able to get the bike back up this track. and then i crashed.
it wasnt serious but the bike was in a ditch on this steep section and i couldn’t get good footing to pick it up, so after about half an hour of dragging it about sideways i managed to get it upright pointing down the hill again.surprise surprise it wouldn’t start now so i free wheeled it down the rest of the hill hopeing there would be a way out at the bottom.
the track entered another track at the bottom which went up and down the hill, but in a easy way which would be no bother on the bike, if it would start.
i managed to get it bump started on the down track but when i reached the bottom there was a locked gate and a ‘no trespassing’ sign, shit.
so i went up the track, same thing.
i went back down, left the bike at the gate and walked to the farm house with hopes of the farmer opening the gate to let me get back to a road.
i met the bloke, he told me he doesnt have the key, the farmer at the other house does, but dont go see him ‘he’ll kill you’.so with that info i went back to the bike, squeezed it through a gap in the fence (sorry) and made it back to the road and home, dripping sweat and dying of thirst.
good times. off to do it again today….

November 6, 2011 at 9:15 am #211321Just remember Chris, treat the Aussie bush with respect, especially as the weather warms up, take water and let someone know you are out there. Plenty of Pommie tourists have learnt the hard way and not made it back.
November 6, 2011 at 11:00 am #211283I love it  2 locked gates and a 50 50 chance of one farmer killing you and the other not killing you, always pick the gate that doesn’t have sculls painted on it with blood.
Glad it all came good, be careful riding on your own, sometimes it only takes a small problem and a good ride can turn into shite.
Great RRNovember 6, 2011 at 2:06 pm #211333Now we need some photos mate. Next ride you go on take your camera!
