last saturday, smokey, choppa and i went for a ride up at a place called Tanjil Bren. its down the bottom of Mt Baw Baw in Victoria. We had a new bull with us called Ranga. he is a mate from long ago at high school. he rides a cr500 and loves his big 2 bangers. when i picked him up i was confronted with this…
i should mention that he has let it get like that to take it to the drags and run a quarter mile with it…strange yes, but that is the Ranga  :laugh:at least the front was good
Ranga had picked Tanjil Bren as he has a ‘weekend warriors’ book that says its 70% loam, which turned out to be bullshit  it was mostly clay and rocks, luckily it was dry or young Ranga would still be there now.
we made a few wrong turns
but made it to the unload spot, right next to the river. we all geared up and smokeys 200 decided not to play. apparently there is a ghost inside his bike that keeps flicking his kill switch off  im pretty sure it is his right knee when he tries to start it  but he wont believe me
we hit the first trail and i nearly went over the bars into the first water feature.
it was a rutted and rather overgrown goat track. great start i thought
it claimed its first victim with smokey doing a spectacular out of control 180 on a steepish incline. Ranga fell over trying to start the big red smoking pig a minute later.  he is a little vertically challenged   i missed both of them on the camera but caught the aftermath.
a little further on i caught up to Ranga only to see him washout on an angled log right in front of me, doing an almost perfectly choreographed tumble roll. we fixed his bent lever and took off again. it was grouse dicing with Ranga through the bush like the old days and the big 500 really cracks. choppa was always there for the dice too but wasnt in his usual hollywood gear so he just blended in with the rest of us
the tracks got better, in fact the tracks just got better all ride.first tracks…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ax9zQ-LCk2csome more sweet trails…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqKi-ZOFv4Ithere is one hill up there called “lady sutton manor south”. it is supposed to be the ducks guts of hillclimbs and is littered with broken parts and pieces from previous carnaged attempts. Ranga was having none of it with his back tyre and wouldnt even go for a look….the pussy   oh well, next time.
all was going nice and we were motoring through a nice single when smokey nearly drowned himself in a boghole…and then drowned his bike
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pdknwygl8PUhe had givin it a fistfull and flooded the airbox. it was full of mud. typical KTMs.
Now, being the gentleman bike rider that i am, i meandered around the front of his bike, dropped into the bog and roosted his poor stranded machine…as you do   …i was only trying to show him how to get out of the bog
but LOOK OUT, that was IT!! smokey made a loud “fhoo” sound as he spat the dummy and started screaming at me and telling me he was over riding and i am a *$&^#%$*#&*!, &$^@*!*#$& arsehole. along with various other expletives striaght from the catholic schoolgirls dictionary. i might have fuelled the situation by telling him to take up macrame if he didnt like getting dirty and to HTFU:laugh:  (he wasnt even on his bike when i roosted it!!)
apparently, roosting someones bike when in a bog is like kicking a half f**king dead dog
i never read that in the 2010 trailriders etiquette almanac  :laugh:the heat (it was all of 25c
) had got the better of smokey and he had a meltdown. we spent the rest of the day hurling abuse at each other
anyway, we emptied some nasty looking black water out of the spark plug hole and after swapping a few plugs we finally got her started again.
a couple of chicks on bikes came along the trail. i had ridden with one of them before on a DBW ride in january. she was practicing for the Condo in a few weeks. go chicks. they had a laugh at smokeys predicament too and kept going.
it took a good 5 minutes of running for it to rev properly again. we took off and while going too bloody fast down a single in my passive anger, i managed to smash my right shin, just above the ankle with a hidden log. it made me scream in my helmet. it was hurting pretty bad but i didnt wanna look and i could move all my pinkys so i kept going. smokey still had the shits on and said (between tears  ) he wanted to go back to the car and decided to ride slow, not exceeding 25 f**king km/h for the rest of the day. its probably my fault for telling him ive seen circus hampsters ride bikes better than him
i was actually fine with going back as my leg was throbbing like a mo-fo but i wasnt letting on.
with a few wrong turns we rode the 30 odd kms back to the cars.smokey actually mentioned he had gotten a little cold during his ‘leasurely’ cruise on the way backand was convinced we had taken him the long way
i took my boot off to reveal this..
it missed my shinbone by about 5mm, thank god! the whole side of my calf is swollen and rock hard and sore as buggery.i guess i was about due for an injury, its been a whole year since i busted my arse
even with all the sooking and argueing, it was still a wicked day. the tracks were fantastic and the weather was great.
ill be going back there with some bulls in tow for sure.
menace.
ps- smokey has since calmed down as is talking to me again
