Am looking to put crash bars on the tenere 660, have been holding off because of the extra weight. Well I have now dropped the bike and cracked the coolant overflow tank (expensive!) so can put off the purchase no longer.
Anyone have any ideas on what is best?
    I currently have a B&B basplate.
    Cheers

Have a look at the SW motech bars Jim, they protect the bike very well and only weigh a couple of kilos ;) I can’t say the weight of any of my bikes protection has been a concern , especially after ditching the 6 kg standard pipe for the light weight leos B)

Have to agree with Jacko he is right (was bound to happen :P ) I fitted the sw bars when I first got my bike and actually got my second set when Jacko got his Tenere and ordered his because well my first set were somehow scratched  they saved my bike when I stuffed my knee. Honestly I would challenge you to notice the difference in riding the bike bars and then no bars I have done both back to back when I rode the bike home new and couldn’t notice it. And like Nick said the standard pipe  Just over 6 kilos piss it off

Thanks Guys, looks like the SW Motech are the ones to get. I also agree about the overweight pipe and have ditched it for a single Barrett.
    Thanks again

Yeh no worries Nick, also if you go back in the ride reports I think I posted a picture of the tenere in the “Simpson Desert” report.
    Cheers

I remember the thread now Jim :) , any more trips planned ??

Well, I turn 50 next year so am hoping to put something together, but all I can guarantee is that it wont be as hard as the Simpson Desert! Maybe I`ll just ride to Yamba and spend a couple of weeks at the beach?

I have SW Motech and they fit great etc.
Only thing I don’t like is my knees touch them when I am sitting forward on the bike. (I do have very long legs)
Great protection, but a little annoying……

G’day Jim, I have the Yamaha alloy bash plate and the lower engine bars on my 09 Tenere. I think you have to delete the lower engine bars if you want to fit the Motech crash bars as far as I can gather. I kinda like the protection the lower bars give to the engine though. Its a bit of a toss up mate. Turning 52 next year so I need all the protection I can get :)

Sent my Tenere to Jenny Craig and it came back heaps lighter with Akrapovic pipes on it…much better.
