Had a Tenere come in a while ago, the dealer (no names but they are up the road from me so you can guess who) did not fit the foam air cleaner to the bike, even though it’s supplied with the bike. Told the new owner he could buy it if he wanted it.
Well 17000km later and an airbox full of dust, its using a lot of oil and generally unhappy. Paper filters are NO GOOD in dust.
I thought it would just be rings, so that’s all I ordered. Waited 4 weeks for rings to arrive (same dealer). Called dealer, “nope, you never ordered it”. Asked them to check their email, plus the bonehead had called me to notify me of backorder. “Nope, emails deleted that long ago, just reorder it, you are getting to be a pain in the ass”. Ha. Love my Yamaha dealer.
Anyway, the point of this rant is when i got it apart the coating was worn off the bore! So it was new barrel or get it recoated. No barrels in stock in OZ, one in NZ maybe. Got it replated with a new piston. I had the engine paint colourmatched so you can’t tell it’s been apart.
I have heard you can’t get the heads and barrels off Tenere’s with the engine in the frame. I’m here to say you can, just have to lower the engine in the cradle a little.
