Is there any benefit in putting that valve saver stuff in a modern bike?
Will it reduce valve recession?April 12, 2009 at 7:29 am #128754No.
But that’s only my opinion and based on absolutely no scientific fact.April 12, 2009 at 8:42 am #128756a lot of the honda boys used to use it in the crf s years ago when they first come out they seamed to think it helped ?
April 12, 2009 at 8:41 pm #128758It was recommended to me, to stop the occasional ping that the XR has. I haven’t tried it yet though. Anyone got an opinion on that theory?
April 12, 2009 at 8:57 pm #128765I have used it for every KM of the 34,000 kms I have done on my bike, I wont ride with out the stuff, the MotorX is the stuff to use:)

Yeah thought that would be your answer, so you dont know or if you do you are really not sure if it works, but you belive it does so that enough which is fine. You could also fit a Polarizer and get a rubbed coin from a gypsy to keep under your tongue to increase your fuel economy, increase your suspension travel and add two extra gears to your gearbox

I used to add octane booster to the 98oct and it ran really well.
I think you need higher octane not valve saver.
Apparently valve saver also boosts the octane a bit.April 13, 2009 at 12:21 am #128848
AnonymousI’ve never even thought about using the valve saver and don’t know how they claim it to work but I can’t see how adding a mixture to your fuel does anything to reduce valve wear.
April 13, 2009 at 2:02 am #128863just a thought when they got rid of leaded fuel you could buy an aditive for unleaded so you could use it in older moters desighned for leaded fuel which had softer valves .be the same stuff would not it

The mechanic (whom I trust)recommended it as he has seen numerous engines with valve recession. Super Petrol which had lead in it acted as a cushioning agent which stopped the valve faces slamming into the seat apparently this does the same thing as the lead. For the cost of 5 litres (about $80)which has lasted me four years I am happy to run it. The WR450 that I had also use to have it (from new)and for a bike that was 5 years old didnt need the shims adjusting once. I reckon it works but im no Julius Sumner miller either.
