This was sort of an adventure ride. It was an adventure for Donna and I anyway. We started from home and headed out to Tarana. On the way we stopped by a small creek so Donna could make some adjustments to her helmet and headset speakers. Then it was on to O’Connell where we hit some dirt roads. Donna had a basic idea of the roads we needed to take but we ended up on a road with a locked gate at the top of a ridge with a nice view. So it was out with the map (this is what adventure riding is about, for us anyway) and found another road to take. We headed towards The Lagoon then right to Charlton and on to Rockley. A lot of this road was nice wide dirt and cruising through the farmland chatting away was just magic.
From Rockley we headed to Newbridge and along the way we came across a couple of old time horse and carts. We stopped the engine as soon as we saw the horses and got off the bike so Donna could say hello to the horses. They were in period clothes with the long beard and all. Really nice people and we had a chat about the two different technologies (horses and bikes). We bid them farewell and waited for the horses to be far enough away before starting the bike.
We were cruising towards Caloola looking for a grass track that the local bike club use and Donna yells “T intersection” through the headset. Lucky one of us was watching the road. While looking for this grass track we found an old stone building that looked liked it was built by the convicts. It even had stone gables. We stopped and admired the time and effort the settlers must have put into the buildings back then, amazed that it was still standing. Not being able to find the grass track, we continued on to Newbridge and then Blayney. I was starting to get hungry and Donna wanted to look around Millthorpe before lunch so we hit the main tar road to Millthorpe and had a ride around the town. There looks to be some nice cafes and pubs but not much was open so we will have to return one day. We then stayed on the tar to the Beekeepers Inn at Vittoria for lunch. http://www.beekeepersinn.com/ We had a really nice lunch and looked around at the antiques from back in the day.
After lunch we headed over to the Ophir Road where we found a huge granite boulder garden, so we stopped to take a few pics. Then hit tar all the way back to Bathurst and dropped into see a friend of Donna’s and then around to 1inarows place for a quick swim and a beer. Being over the heat by this stage, we rode the highway home. We had a great first trip on the Beemer and are really keen to get out again asap.
The F800GS is a great machine for what we want to ride and Donna said that at the end of the day her body didn’t feel like it had on a bike for 300kms. I am still a bit nervous with Donna on the back and messed up a few gear changes resulting in an accidental head butt from Donna. Fuel range was excellent. We did 237kms and put 8.5L in at Bathurst. We only had an average speed of 65km/h though.
Only took a few photos.

AnonymousGood report Mal.
At the moment I would rather go on a dual sport ride than hitting the bush proper – That might change when the weather cools down again
