    This is a serious thread
Even though some of you will not understand
I am bordering on getting old (not dead yet though) and would like to here all of your remedy’s for Monkey Butt
I am guessing that it is happening more now because I’m getting older and just can’t be bothered to be on the pegs as much as I used to be
As I get older, thus sitting more, I find it very painfull to do much at all after a ride?????
Some kind of help is needed
I just cant go on this way
    Cheers

Surely its more comman than this???
    anybody??
Just did a ride Monday and even though it was not raining, I came home sweating like a pig.
I am probably a little over weight and more than a tadd hairy (like a bear or gorilla)
Just looking for a quick fix????
Have not tried the powders or creams yet
Not sure which way to go
    Powders:-

Do they keep working 5 minutes into a ride (when everything gets sweaty)??

    Creams:-

Do they stick around all day??
Or do they have to be reaplied when the going gets tough. And I mean Tough AHA
I probably sweat more than anybody on a ride. Gotta let the young fella’s step in more often and help drag bikes up cliffs
    Cheerio
Murph (looking for another bottle) the surf

    C’mon ya’ll
Don’t be shy, shorely, shawly, sorely or whatever?
    Whats going on??
    Under the ground?????
My thoughts are that if you live within a thirty km radius of an underground coal mine, you gotta hope they did evrything right. Even then nothin is guaratined??
    So many questions???
    Cheers

Murph I suffer from it bad always have. I try to ride on the pegs as much as possible but still get it.

Even worse if I have needed to release a hostage before a ride. (I have sorted that issue using baby wipes for the clean up!!!!!)

Some days I would have no skin left serious all the boys would laugh as by the end of the ride I would be riding side saddle hahahah.

I started powdering my butt with baby powder and did that for many years but found as I sweated the powder would make little balls and rub like a coarse emery paper…….not nice.

Then tried sorbolene cream rubbed in before a ride didn’t help at all.

I now wear skins and find they help on most rides but if I sweat bad or its a extended ride I still have the issue.

I have read somewhere to try the cream cyclists rub into there chamois, so that is going to be my next thing to try.

    Murph,

Luckily for me I don’t get it. I know I should because I am one of the most sit down riders you have ever seen. Maybe it is just tough after years of sitting down!

Anyway lots of blokes I ride with fall into two camps. The first camp swears by vaseline. They put on great wads of the stuff before a ride. Buy it by the gallon in tubs larger than I knew was available. It doesn’t sound too comfortable to me but they swear by it.

The other camp uses the stuff you can buy for haemorrhoids. I think it has the highly original name of Anusol. I think it has some sort of anesthetic in it. It is fairly mild and is available without prescription.

The third option is to get yourself a pair of the padded bike pants and wear them under your pants.

As for curing it now that you have it, go to the baby section at the supermarket and get some nappy rash stuff. My kids are just old enough now that I can’t remember which one works the best but they are all relatively cheap and most work.

All I got mate. Hope it helps.

I too have heard great reports that copious amounts of Vasaline helps. RiderX carries a huge container of it in his trailer and swears by it. Apparently he gets the shits if you use his container of Vaso and “double dip”.

Canesten cream Murph, money back guarantee mate. Started using it in 2004 when we rode to Cape York (that was 14 days every day on the bike) used it for 4 days, Condos, Camerons etc never had it again ;)

Had tried them all before that over years of racing etc it works

Most people I know who suffer it ( Thankfully i dont) use vaseline. Lots of it. I too am a Major sit down rider and have wondered why i dont get hammered with it. :)

When I used to live in far north QLD I would use 3B cream during the wet season (summer) just going to work. Works well, wouldn’t need to reapply during a ride.

As a remedy can’t go past papaw cream, red jar at chemist or supermarket

    1) Vaso
    2) Paw Paw Cream
    3) Tape – removal aint pleasant but you don’t get that slippery just lubed feeling

    #193892

i dont get monkey butt i get it between my legs from my nut sack rubbing against them
i have tried a few things from wearing jocks, vaso and even rubbing one out to reduce swelling before a ride day
but the only winner is 3b cream

how do you go with arm pump using this approach?

    #193899

its not so much arm pump
its more of a hand pump

i prefer natural lanolin, but will use any oil/petrolium based ointment that wont dry up or soak in.

ive seen a bloke use margerine before

fungal infection creams like canesten work well, but i dont like using a medication when i dont need medicating

if i was doing multiple days riding id go the canesten ;)
