My only suggestion is make sure those bolt holes line up so you don’t cross thread the tank mounting bolts. Very common mistake and a real PITA to fix.
February 20, 2013 at 9:17 am #236967ok I’ve tried
taking the fuel cap off – nope didn’t work
using tie down straps- brillant idea in theory….I must be doing something wrong
pulling it open a bit- not a hope in hell the plastic is super rigid
Asking my mower man to use his young muscles to put the thing on- no dice….fun to watch though
Asking someone who lives up the road to help– no dice he just laughed and said ‘I told you not to buy it’… Bastard…I gave it my best guys , but I’ll admit some things a girl needs a man for (yes that hurt to say
)
I am offically calling for actual physical help now .
I got a call from the parts supplier and $269 later ( I know its probably too much to spend on it) and the new parts should be here next week. I have to sell it for at least $500 now, I’ve spent too much fixing the damn thing.
Would probably make a good scrappa actually.
So Old Bulls…help!
February 20, 2013 at 9:52 am #237000Hmmm maybe get the local Chinese restaurant owner to have a look 😆

That bike owes you nothing, you owe it!
It got you into the sport and showed you how much enjoyment it can bring so thank it, bury it and move on to a Japanese bike.STM
February 20, 2013 at 10:30 am #237003Gday old girl
sounds to me that something like a wire loom (wires) or hoses that are 10mm in diametre is getting caught and not letting you get the last bit.
Was it hard to come off?
could it be the fuel tap assemblely fauling on something?
Just have a long hard look and try to see what has moved.
hey take some photos
good luck
February 20, 2013 at 11:21 am #237004If you text me in the morning I will pop over when I go to the shops and see if I can see whats doing OG if you want?

February 21, 2013 at 12:14 am #237006TB’s legend status remains intact . The hero’s reply to a damsel in distress got the fuel tank on in about 5min flat. Even with his poor leg in that brace too !
Unfortunately, I didn’t get a shot of how he did it.But it involved a large philips head and a flat head screwdriver. One to find the bolt hole and the other for leverage against a random bit of bike to push the tank forward enough to get the screw in. Excellent little trick.
Now its just a matter of putting all the plastics back on and waiting for the rest of the parts.
Here are the rest of the pics I’ve taken
as you can see it needed to come forward a touch
These were the rubber bits that the tank rolled on. TB pointed out that you must need a bit of force to get the tank on bc the rubber is distorted
It slides on here
So TB put a large philps head in the hole on the tank (red arrow) and through the hole on the frame to line it up. Then used a flat head as a lever (blue arrown) to push it into line. Then he removed the philips head and whacked in the bolt.
This is the thing that held the air box hose onto the carby (it was a bit loose) it came pre mushed up and what a super job those chinese did of putting my bike together. I wish I knew how to swear in mandarin bc it was a bugger to get off.
Old soleniod on right new one on left . Wrong plug ends though on new one
Easy fixed Love that shrink tube stuff…
Ok last one. Picked this up from ThinkGeek.com stops me from loosing my screws or sockets. Strong enough to hold a spanner as well
February 21, 2013 at 5:02 am #236618Got the parts I ordered today.
Small problem though. I ordered a new headlight but it didn’t come with the straps to attach it to the bike which means there is no where to put the indicators either. Don’t have the original ….yes important lesson keep the broken bits UNTIL you have the new parts.
Oh and TB I had to take the tank off again  the wiring plugs for speedo were under it. Used your trick and got it back on by myself though
No I’m not zip tying the headlight on either , don’t even suggest it!
There must be some sort of generic headlight bracket thingy????

Well done on the tank on and off
Let me scratch through my grave yard of bits and bobs and see what I have got. Don’t forget sing out if you need a hand

February 21, 2013 at 5:13 am #236619Thanks TB I might need some help with the rear plastics. My wrist hurts too much to get the rear mud guard on (stupid chainsaw).
In your grave yard of parts if you have an indicator light ??? I seem to be one short.
February 21, 2013 at 5:20 am #236620He has enough bits and bobs to put together a bike for the Scrapheap Challenge I reckon…
Just keeps dragging bike bits out all over the place :laugh:All very handy bits too
Great work guys,,, get the chinger back together and go from there OG
Lots of people would have given up on it way earlier than you :whistle:Cheers

 I wont give up on it !
My Minister for Finance passed a ‘One Bike Law’ that states, as long as there is one motorcycle under my ownership (or any of the other family members ownership…slippery bugger) no other motorcycles will be financed until the current motorcycle has been disposed of for a sum of money that the Minister finds acceptable.
He added in ‘sum of money’ bc I was thinking about walking away from it. So you see not fixing the bike is akin to agreeing never to ride again.Haven’t actually told the Minister how much it is costing to fix though
I’ll wait till I’ve sold it to break that news…..I’m not totally stupid
February 21, 2013 at 8:38 am #236621:laugh:
I find this all too familiar,,,
Only it`s usually the blokes doing the squirming and the Ministers are normally all female :silly:I like your style though
CheersFebruary 24, 2013 at 12:21 am #236622My struggle is over :woohoo:
It seems there is a complicated appeals prosses required when you want to challange a decision made by my MOF (Minister for Finance).
It involves lots of complaining (by me), showing the MOF the cost of fixing said clunker compared to possible retail value (stuff all), and finally crying (trust me guys if you cried for your MOF she would give you anything
).
So the MOF has agreed its time to let the clunker just die. Strip what parts I want off it and take the rest to the Motor recylers.
I kind of lost it when I was fitting the parts I’d ordered and the bolt for the speedo just spun around in the plastic when I tried to fit a Nyloc nut to it. Not only that but the cable for the speedo was the wrong one and wouldn’t fit.
But I really lost the plot when I put the new handbars on and realised that um the old ones weren’t that bent ..no….it was the WHOLE FRONT END of the bike that is bent!!
That was it for me. I was on the phone to the MOF in full stage three appeals (aka crying my eyes out)
So any suggestions of what I should and shouldnt salvage off it? Or does anyone think they want the engine (would make a seriously high powered go cart
)
February 24, 2013 at 1:14 am #237208If it runs then it will be worth something to someone. Put it on bikesales.com or ebay at a cheap price, someone will take it off your hands.
Not too many parts will fit a different brand of bike other than indicators.
