Beautiful Sun, Dust, riding in shorts & thongs and the heat of spring.
Yep we didn’t see any of these on this ride. But laugh so hard, all day long, my sides are still sore.
I looked outside at the shed and was about to step outside to get the kit on when the heavy rain started again…..hmmm…..7.30…..Joe would have called by now if he wasn’t going. Only the two of us today.
It rained constantly all day from heavy to torrential and the only time it stopped was at lunch at Stroud
We were heading to Mount George and back at a stretch but with this weather we only made it to The Glen Nature Reserve near Stroud and then headed home via Bulahdelah.
First we took every back road to East Maitland this is where it started raining sideways and the sound of thunder over the bike noise and flashes of lightening were a show in itself. By Seaham it was flash flooding with 6” of water across the road in many places .Joe said, we were wet anyhow so we may as well keep going. We wouldn’t be men if we didn’t. It was here the dirt started and a crazy blue 4WD flew past the other way trying to run us off the road beeping his horn. We headed along East Seaham Rd, Glen Martin Rd, and followed Black Camp Rd all the way to Stroud for lunch.
From Stroud it stopped raining for 30 min but the wind got so cold Joe wore his balacalava while eating his lunch. I was watching the nervous ladies face when he took our plates back still wearing his disguise but she calmed down when she saw the plates and his big silly grin. Our mate on the Harley was heading for Newcastle with only Jeans and a polar fleece jumper and skull cap. We wished him luck as he was about to hit some bad weather.
Next was east on Gap Hill Rd and north on Mill Creek Rd which is a very nice flowing detour off the main road which goes through a nature reserve.
We tried to Go East along Terreel Rd but it narrowed to some private property that looks as though you shouldn’t be there. So back west on Terreel rd and short hop up the old buckets way to the twisty winding and lets not forget Rainy Glen Rd with old forrest and ferns. Joe took off on the back wheel and thundered ahead it was grins from ear to ear. It worth the journey, there are some nice winding flowing dirt roads up that way. Pics were hard to get with so much rain about.
KTM MUSHROOMS
When we made it back near Bulahdelah I remember Marks reports saying something about a crossing on Old Inn Rd that may be hard to get through if there was some rain about. We will have to look at that. First crossing in, we thought we had it beat.
Wern’t we wrong indeed. … but what fun, crossing after crossing after flooded sections and whoa….. check out the last one. When it got to waist deep without even getting to main section, we knew we were beat. Hang on, I remember seeing there was another turn off not far back. A look on the map and yes, Lowreys Rd. It still crosses the Crawford River but we were lucky it was a lot wider and the sign says 0.4 Deep. We still walked it to make sure.Cool bananas.
Now where? Theres Emu Creek track! it lead to some singles. Single um ar, um these were not tracks they were small river’s & what a ball, single track we both forgot we were on the big bikes and slipped and slided along like kids till Joe almost went over in a big puddle, then I did the splits and almost went down. The 640 got a bit wet & steamy though. Time to drain the ait box.
It was getting on 4.00. So we turned toward the main road. As I was taking my glasses off to give them a wipe, one lenze fell out . shit.shit.
No worries.
Wrong again!!!! It took three attempts to but to no avail, it trickled down the stream of water getting deeper and deeper and further out of reach into the bog from hell never to be seen (out of ) again. Joe had a certain worried look on his mug till I cracked up. Oh well, what more could you do? It was actually better to see though with less dots & fog all the way home.
Home, yes, it was getting late and cold and wet, soaking wet to the bone. At Heatherbrae BP the staff put a slippery wet floor! sign next to our newly formed puddles on the floor as we stood there warming up the gizzards with a warm bevvy.
Top day, thanks Joe what a blast.450 Km

September 28, 2011 at 6:07 pm #209854We saw the bikes & Utes there and thought how cosy the place looked. You did well to get the cars out of lowry Rd. Thought you may be bunked down for a couple of days there.
TB – You Guys must be mad riding in the rain like that
September 28, 2011 at 11:44 pm #209855I thought to myself, who would ride in those conditions
But it was Gavb and Tryhard after all
Good to see you both had fun, top effort
Adam.
September 29, 2011 at 8:37 am #209856Hey GavB and Tryhard,
Love your RR. It makes my ride on Sunday look tame compared to yours. Maybe a snorkel would have been another accessory to take on the ride that day…..
Hoping the rain stays away this weekend. Got a two day ride to Coolah this weekend…..
September 29, 2011 at 10:15 am #209875Great report Gav , some of those crossings must have been a worry !!
After getting to know Tryhard at the high country it doesn’t surprise me he didn’t call off the ride
