I have probably harped on about this before and I will continue to do so until the State Government sorts out a fairer and more reasonable system.
Insurance companies rely on people’s complacency and laziness in order to rip you right off!!
They will send out a renewal for your greenslip and hope that you will just go and pay it with out doing any research.
If you do not shop around for your greenslip you will get burnt!!! 👿
Last year I had my XR650R insured through Allianz as they were the cheapest at the time ($211.00) , I just received my renewal in the mail and it is now $264.00 for 12 months.
A sizable jump!! Time to shop around again!! I jumped on the RMS Greenslip Calculator and typed in my details and was surprised to see the disparity in prices!!
Check it out for yourself!
http://www.maa.nsw.gov.au/default.aspx?MenuID=102Alliance $264.00 as quoted
QBE $199.00 if done on line. It took 5 minutes in the QBE link (supplied on the calculator) and saved me $65.00!!
Don’t get ripped off when registering your bike, use the calculator, shop around and save!
February 12, 2013 at 11:38 pm #236641We got pretty dirty about this too so we called our insurer. Amazing how flexible they are on price when you question them on why the rates have jumped. They matched our lowest quoted price.
As you said Mick, shop around, don’t just accept the renewal. Insurance companies are the lowest form of life.February 12, 2013 at 11:45 pm #236644Even regular insurance can be like that. When I was shopping around for insurance for the WR I was quoted over $900 by insure my ride and got it for a third of that from Swann Insurance.
February 13, 2013 at 1:40 am #236645I have been doing this for years now Every time I have saved money. Complacency is costly. If you change your insurance provider make sure you are getting the cover you want. Policies can differ in content. Insurance company’s suck!
February 13, 2013 at 3:15 am #236658I have also just paid for a greenslip
Yes I did change insurers but it was a bit of a pain in the arse
The new insurer wanted to know if my vehicle was fully insured, who with, how long and what % no claim.
This was a little confusing especially for clown like myself. :S
All good now and found it was cheaper if done over the net.
Cheers
MurphFebruary 13, 2013 at 4:00 am #236662The wranga is due for rego tomorrow, so I will be shopping around for my green slip, good post mick, bout time you done something useful 😆
February 13, 2013 at 9:02 am #236664We got the car insurance renewal in the mail, went onto their website to get a quote, entered the exact same details, $250 cheaper.
Thought this is good decided to email our rural loans manager, had a whinge, yes we can drop your interest rate .53%
Where’s there fair go I thought.February 13, 2013 at 10:55 am #236675Generally the cheapest Green slip one year will be the dearest the following year and the insurance companies take turns in this , basically you need to do what Micks done every year to ensure the
cheapest prices.I was paying around $13k a year for all my insurances ( including business) and decided to try a bring it down if possible. After 2 hours an evening for 3 evenings on the net and phone I got it down to under $7k. That’s $1000 for every hour price checking and haggling !!!!! Who wouldn’t work for that ??
Now I know where to look I price check and ring around every year on all my insurances as the prices constantly change. Insurance companies are robbing bastards and need to be watched
Nick
February 13, 2013 at 9:01 pm #236688Good timing on this mick – my green slip renewal just came in yesterday.
I will be shopping around today because just like you said, i think they rely on Jo Publics laziness to rip people off!
For comprehensive i don’t think you can go past Insure My Ride. They were by far the cheapest when i was shopping around last year. It is a “bare bones” cover though so you have to make sure you take into account all of the bolt ons etc.
February 27, 2013 at 7:37 am #236642Thx Mick, you just saved me $95
February 27, 2013 at 9:52 am #237367I also just saved the young bloke 2 doors up $95 on his XR400 this arvo. He was just about to pay his NRMA renewal.
February 27, 2013 at 10:54 am #237384I just renewed the Green Slip on the DRZ with GIO $197
It certainly pays to shop around.
The insurance co’s seem to change their prices monthly. The MAA web sit Mick quoted is the best spot to compare..
February 27, 2013 at 9:39 pm #237392I just registered my ZRX1200. The green slip was $689.
I shopped around and most were over $900.
When I rang to question why the price had gone up $80 I was told all green slips went up last Feb due to some government bullsh*t.
At this rate it will not be worth me keeping the bike as I don’t ride it that much any way.
I may have to look at a smaller cc maybe the Triumph 800. It looks like it can do almost everything.March 1, 2013 at 5:35 pm #236643Thanks mick! Saved me 49 big ones :woohoo:
March 1, 2013 at 7:19 pm #237505My ute came through the other day @ $700, got on line and can get it for $490. Still a rip off but $210 is a big difference.
