OK, once the Vstrom sells, I am looking for a bike again. Pretty much decided on a DRZ250 but gotta say they are not an inspiring bike. Given what I want I think this will be the best option, but time to put it out there, see what everyone else’s reckons.
So I ride well in the technical single trail and really enjoy it. Not fast but able, shall we say! Had a WR250f and loved it, improved my riding no end on it, but felt guilty sitting $6k of bike in the shed for the larger part of the year.
I’m looking for a bike that can do single (think Catombal, Clarence, Louee, Goanna Tracks, Bike territory) but can also do a cruisy ride on local dirt roads, with minimal maintenance and running costs.
Thinking that e-start is a must. Oh, and I am not a 2-stroke bloke… my loss I guess!
Budget for purchase about $3000
Happy to upgrade suspension etc to make a sleeper into a weapon.
With that said, my short list is bikes like DRZ250, TT-R250 (or 350 versions of either), XR250 (L model perhaps) , maybe XR400…
So throw opinions at me!

December 19, 2012 at 10:06 am #234160Yeah, like the idea of a DR350 or XR400. Kickstart only, but much better power…
Still open to other ideas though!

Trying to think of something different but good. Found a SuziTS200 on gum tree.. gawdawfully ugly, but they were alright back in the day… for a 2-Banger.
Of the new generation of liquid cooled bikes, the WRF’s are good and reliable, but good ones are out of budget…
