Hi all,
Hope every one has had a great xmas.
My lovley wife sally has decided she wants to learn to ride how ever its a road bike she wants not a dirt bike. So i said no worries i’ll teach you. BUT i have a 08 klx450 and a 08 JR50 in my shed neither are a learning bike for her really. I don’t want to spend money on a bike incase she doesn’t like it or get into it so what the hell am i going to do?
Then again i don’t want a _____D on my hands where the budget goes more on her bikes then mine LMAO
Corey

December 29, 2009 at 11:35 am #166490If she really wants to ride a road bike, send her off to get a license. The stay upright course in NSW in really good and they teach the basics through to going for a ride around town at the ‘P’ plate course.
A bike is included in the Leaners course and you can hire one for the ‘P’ plate course. At least then she will have a license and some ride time. Then she could have a go on the KLX and see if riding is for her.
Just my thoughts mate. Good luck.
December 29, 2009 at 12:07 pm #166486that’s actually a really good idea Mal
that way she has some time on a bike you don’t have to find a buyer for if it’s not her thing.
plus someone else is teaching her and will maybe a little less likely to have the stress of how to instruct without the pressure of not getting it right quick enough.
my sis was trying to teach their son to ride his bike while they were her on holidays a couple of years ago, she was getting impatient and frustrated he was not quite getting it, his balance was off and he was almost panicking and about ready to give because of her tone of voice etc.
i got him on it on his own, walked along holding the rear guard and was letting go while resting my hand on the guard to feel if he was balancing on his own. and when he had that sorted i’d let go and let him get just a little further away from me until i thought he had it. then let him ride 15 mitres all on his own.
it turned out when i looked closely the bars were about an inch out to one side, fixed that and he was away in no time after that..
anyway long story short, sort of  ,, if she is taught by someone else 1st up it may be easier for her to pick it up, and save any angst
between the 2 of you

December 29, 2009 at 8:58 pm #166498My bride went through the riders course and now has a bike license
She had a TTR 230 for a couple of years and even though it was fun to have the other half out on the trails it was always a worry when she fell off
My young fella stopped coming out with us due to the slower pace and boring tracks we took
After a while the fad passed and her bike sat in the shed for 12 months so we sold it
Good luck with it all Corey8
Cheers

AnonymousHey Corey, I think it is a good idea for her to see how she likes it before buying another bike but if she likes it and you do buy one I can definetly recommend a motard DRZ400. They are sooooo much fun.
In saying that I have only ever ridden a sports bike once (and it didn’t really excite me that much) so I don’t have much to compare it too.

Corey I took my DR out yesterday and did 170kms on it and I now need to revise my comment above to ‘They are sooooooooooooooooooo much fun’.
It is just sooooooooooooo sweet to ride. I’m sure if she had a go on something like this she would love it.

Kylie i’m the one that would love the DRZ in motard trim. I had 1 and love the bike and wish i kept it to do what you have done but needed funds for the KLX450 so she had to go but i have talked Sally into trying a dirt bike over a roady

Yes I am actually a member of that forum. It is a great forum for girly riders especially if you are from Vic. There weren’t many NSW members unfortunately so I don’t go there very often but it is a cool site for women.
Unfortunately for everyone else on this forum, OBT is still my favourite though.

AnonymousKylie Sue’s forum is pretty new and most women to my surprise dont talk to much on the websites unlike when you get them together  but we had a partners weekend back in Nov and that was really injoyed by all,,only down side it was super hot for the days we had it, but there will be other partner weekends, plus women only rides and because Sue cant get to many girls together that are average riders and not pro riders then it makes it hard for women rides only so she heads out with me and others blokes mostly and she is getting better all the time.
Cheers Mick.
